How to fix Torghast in 4 easy steps

We all know that at the moment, Torghast is a chore that we do MAYBE twice a week to get soul ash to upgrade or create new legendaries. Personally, at this point it is rare for me to do both runs in a given week.

As the game stands right now, that is the only reason to do it. (This does not include Twisting Corridors, although some things mentioned in this post could be applied there).

But, if there were other incentives, more players, such as myself, would engage in Torghast far more than the twice per week that is needed to get the 1140 soul ash maximum.

So, without further ado, my 4 steps to fix Torghast:

Step 1: Soul Ash Catch-up

Why is this not already a thing? Make soul ash work just like conquest points. Increase the cap by 1140 each week, and have successive runs reward less than the initial run. (This would be similar to the way RBGs work for example, where your first win gives 150 CP, and each win thereafter gives 100 CP.)
As of today, your first run at layer 8 awards 570 soul ash for each wing. Successive runs shouldn’t award this much, and it should scale to the layer as it currently does. RBGs give 66% of the initial reward for successive wins, so pick a number for torghast. I assume it would be somewhere in the 50-66% range. This would allow for catchup on alts, and mains if they miss a week or don’t enjoy a particular wing.

Step 2: Rare Drops

Remember Islands? The BFA thing everyone hated? Well, what was the best part of islands? The transmog. Each island set had a rare recolor of an old raid set that in general, looked really cool (I’m looking at you, Razorfin) Why don’t the 6 torghast wings have a transmog set that each piece has a low chance to drop either off mobs or at the end of the run? (I would do it off mobs, with more powerful ones having a higher drop chance) This wouldn’t change a thing for speed runners, since it is purely cosmetic, and collectors, like myself, enjoy the chance to get the new loot!

Step 3: Make Phantasma an actual currency.

Each time we run Torghast we collect thousands of phantasma to spend on anima powers at levels 3 and 6. What if, whatever you had left over, or whatever you had collected in total (to not de-incentivize buying powers) was given to you after your run, and a vendor was waiting in the halls of Torghast with… rep tokens… mounts… toys… consumables… trade supplies!
There is a catch to this, however. Currently, some classes, like Warlock can gain Anima powers that give Phantasma when you cast a certain ability (I.E. Chaos Bolt). Others. like Death Knight, don’t. So one of two things need to happen here, this is a case where either everyone gets one, or no one does.

And finally, Step 4: Leaderboards

We asked for this from Day 1. Leaderboards per class, and overall, for clear speed of layer 8, or whatever the highest available layer is. Now think of the potential. The fastest run gets _______. The top 10 get _______. Top 100 get _____ and so on and so forth. Think of the challenge mode sets and mage tower artifact appearances. Think of titles, mounts, toys… (can you tell I like cosmetics yet?)
Think of the potential.

When it was announced; I was more excited for Torghast than anything else in Shadowlands. Because I saw all of this. I saw the potential. It can still be saved. But change has to happen, soon. This is an expansion long system, and we’re already not doing it, 4 months in.

TL;DR
Step 1: Soul Ash catchup mechanic
Step 2: Rare (cosmetic) drops
Step 3: Make Phantasma a currency to buy stuff with outside of Torghast
Step 4: Leaderboards

Please repost this. I have faith that Torghast can be the best part of the Shadowlands, but it needs at least some of these things. Help me get Blizzard to see this.

There’s nothing they can do to to fix torghast, its bad content. Very boring to run.

A save point every 3 floors would be nice. Nothing you can do to alleviate the boredom though.

That could be a twisting corridors thing, but I agree.

The soul ash catch up is king! If that was a thing I’d run this thing 15 times a day of it helps me catch up on soul ash.

I quit TC after 2 layers. 2 hours is just too long of a commitment to make. At least raiding has breaks and doesn’t make me start over should something come up.

I tried to tank a layer 8 for some folks hoping to get the mount - one party member died 15 times haha - and unfortunately, I tried to tank this bear/cat animal that does earthquake which one-shot the rest of the team at least twice. Floor 13 or 14 I think we had 2 lives left. The mage left so we’re short.

We got to the final boss believe it or not, pushing through and with that stick with it attitude. I’m not sure if the game automatically scales successive floors if you go from 5 man to 4 man - but it didn’t feel like it because we weren’t able to kill that last boss unfortunately, just didn’t have enough gas in the tank.

That was a good 2 hours or so spent - only to have hope shattered at the end - man, I felt so bad for them. I really wanted to see them get their mounts.

In our case though, we had one fellow who died a lot to avoidable AoE. So, everything matters in there, every death matters. Every power matters. All in service to the big guy at the end.

But if you had been able to collect items along the way, it wouldn’t feel like a waste of time!

I’m fine if they want to make it hard, but I have an issue with making it hard and taking 2 hours and relying on some rng.

Yes! Absolutely! Instead of crushing defeat, at least walk away with some form of consolation for your efforts! Even anima, though, I personally feel it needs more than that for sure.

It’s not bad content, it’s just boring because there’s no challenge in the mandatory side of it, and no reason to run TC unless you want the 3 boring rewards or the mount that makes the worst part of the game slightly less awful.

Yeah I’d like to see more cosmetic rewards in TC, and I’d like to see the Soul Ash grind decoupled from the regular wings. Torghast should be its own fun thing that doesn’t affect the rest of the game, OR it should be an optional way to get your mandatory grind done (but not the ONLY way).

And most of my comments are aimed at the normal soul ash runs. Personally, i’ve done level 1 of TC, because there is no reason for me to do any of it.

Yes and an anima reward

With mounts becoming usable in the Maw in 9.1, I just don’t see any reason to continue grinding it. I can do it, it’s just too much of a time sink.

Buddy, you should’ve seen what Torghast was like on the early Beta.

It was one of the most universally-acclaimed features ever but the version we have now is extremely different.

Personally, I have the rare drop from the Beastwarrens, so why would I waste all that time in TC for effectively no gain?

There should be a cool looking Torghast gear set that provides an alternative way to progress your character if you fell behind the curve and can’t break into M+ or raid groups.

That’s another excellent point. TC is a waste of resources / talent. There’s no reason to bother with it and I thought it was going to be a way of progressing your character solo or in a group - flexible, and endless - well that turned out to be a bunch of BS.

Around Ilvl 180? Mythic 0’s and honor are still better but helps get over an awkward hump

I only did the regular halls in Beta - I didn’t do TC (that I remember) - but it was different from what people are saying. Wonder why they changed it. I don’t get it.
