How to fix permafrost in dragonflight

Right now permafrost stacks up to 20% of your health maximum based off auto attacks. This talent is almost never picked due to the problems of not gaining any shield in downtime, it lacks compared to the mobility of wraith walk and burst heal of death pact.

Remember the prydaz legendary? My proposed fix is a shield similiar, maybe not as powerful. Something like 10% of your max health every 10 seconds.

Is this pvp I assume? Permafrost is my go to in pve. The healing done over the course of a raid or m+ is not insignificant.

Its insignificant. Its all pad absorbs and isnt actually practical in keeping you alive considering especially in pve when you take a large chunk of damage you can just deathstrike back to full hp anyway. Wraith walk is always a better choice and deathpact is always a better choice over permafrost

Yea, think they should just scrap the taent entirely and replace with something else?

Heck maybe something like
“Your heal 2% of your max health every second while remorseless winter is active” then it could build well with gathering storm, and be somewhat comparable to death pact

Youre on the right trail, Just bring back conversion for frost

Why is this guy talking to himself :flushed:?

Me and Chillpills have the same xmog lol.

Looked up conversion and it seems good. Reminds me of indomitable talent from prot warrior.

Conversion will never be implemented again. It is at odds with Death Strike.

Replace permafrost with Mirror Ball.

Wraith Walk should be baseline, and replaced with Chill of the Grave.

This is all changing soon anyway. Have no idea what the DK talent tree looks like.

There would be no reason to ever play chill of the grave over mirrorball/pact

Hm… A personal dispell with a good defensive cooldown or a Doodoo Strike with extra range?

You would take Chill of the Grave more in pve and against physical comps like jungle…

Yea but why would you pick Chill of the Grave over Mirror Ball?

  • Helping the Healer with dispells?
  • Remove Bursting?
  • Removing seasonal pvp magic debuffs like Malediction.
  • Making AMS a more powerful cooldown.
  • Dispells are more valuable than a range of a specific ability. An ability that’s quite doodoo right now, mind you.

A meager Frost Strike range increase can’t really compare to it. Not really a good competition there.

Somehow, it’s better than Hypothermic Presence. But I do like the idea of Wraith Walk baseline.

So your problem is Mirror ball is too good? PVE is still part of the game even though you guys are talking about pvp specifically.

Compared to Chill of the Grave? Yes.

Mirror Ball is fine by itself. It gives AMS a spec-flavor for Frost like Anti-Magic Barrier for Blood and Spell Eater for Unholy.

Since Permafrost is a talent that can be used for both PvE and PvP, it’s not really mutually exclusive. It still has its limited use in PvE.

EDIT: Dispelling magical debuff is a very powerful thing. One reason why Cloak of Shadows is so obnoxious.

Thank you for letting me know dispelling is a powerful thing… ROFL.

Having talents that are stronger in either pvp or pve is very common. Also permafrost is garbage in pvp so your point doesn’t really stand. All that 2h auto attack absorb.

Sounds like you guys are just finding a ways to hate on my idea because you want Conversion to be a thing.

Again, we have no idea what the talent tree looks like yet. Might get everything and have to choose.

I’m not hating your ideas or mocking them. I’m giving you a valid criticism.

And you’re right on having talents stronger in either PvP or PvE is common. That’s partially because some talents have PvP modifiers that many are not aware of. I am aware of a couple of things like Cold Heart doing 70% less damage in PvP (Not even practical in PvP to begin with), BoS doing 66% less damage in PvP or FWF doing 70% less damage. They’re there for us to not one shot people but it does kinda feel irksome that you have to look up the changes or pay attention to the tooltip numbers to see what the numbers actually do.

I am also aware that talents like Pact is simply more applicable than Wraith Walk in PvP. 50% heal to your health is not to sniff at and is not really comparable compared to what Wraith Walk does. Mirror Ball might have a healthy competition between the two.

But the criticism for Chill of the Grave is valid. It’s good against one comp in PvP. Where Mirror Ball is good against many. Not only that, Chill of the Grave doesn’t make Frost Strike any less feels garbage to spend even with Eradicating Blows conduit buff for PvP (Seriously, why?).

You can’t really be snide when you’re comparing a dispel to a range increase of a mediocre ability.

And I know Permafrost is garbage in PvP. It can be lackluster in PvE also but it does better in PvE than in PvP. I kinda wish Permafrost is baseline that works like Soul Leech for Warlocks.

Maybe then Conversion would be a lot less likely to return. I really don’t care whether or not if the ability returns. I just want RP to feel good to spend.

P.S. I also like your Mirror Ball suggestion more than Conversion if you ask me.

Mountain out of a molehill.

Edit: We all agree permafrost is trash. Baseline would be kinda cool.

CotG would be taken in pve much more than mirror ball. I do not look at the game in a pvp vacuum. I think its okay for talents to favor either pvp or pve. Mirror Ball would lean towards pvp and CotG would favor pve but could be used in specific scenarios vice versa.
Plus Wraithwalk baseline.

Not sure what is so controversial about that.

It’s not controversial at all. We’re just having a healthy conversation. At least, I think so anyway.

If you’d pick CotG in PvE content, that’s fine. I’m telling you what I’d pick if I have to choose between CotG and Mirror Ball.

Don’t take my criticisms to heart too. I like your ideas and I’d like to see more of them. I’m also implying and ask you that you can come up with a better talent than a range increase from Frost Strike because that ability is just that uninteresting to me.

We both like ideas of Wraith Walk and Permafrost baseline. So don’t forget the foundations of this conversation.

Healthy. Just weezing the juice.

I like CotG a lot from a pve perspective because think of all the fights where UHDK blows away FDK because of mechanics forcing FDK to range the boss/Mobs. Edit: Or how fast my DH can get back to the boss/mobs.

I also think it fits well with replacing a talent that is movement gap closing themed.

With conduits going away I would take a talent that buffs IBF to help us survive against these Warrior physical damage apes mowing us down at the moment.

That’s a fair complaint about UHDKs having more range dammie than FDK. But I think that’s their natural strength over Frost. Since they have minions and all.

Yes, Unholy has Clawing Shadows, Death Coil, Epidemic, Death and Decay. But Frost also have Howling Blast, Cold Heart, Frostwyrm’s Fury (Probably don’t want to spend those for range), Death Coil (80% rune recharge), and Death and Decay if you REALLY want to squeeze out the range dammies.

All of that aside, Unholy will always trump Frost in range department… and that’s okay.

That being said, if CotG would also work on Obliterate and not just Frost Strike (and MAYBE Death Strike) then I would give a bit more consideration between it and Mirror Ball. It would be an interesting form of Acrobatic Strikes.

EDIT: OOOH. CotG also extending Frostscythe!!! That sounds amazing if Frostscythe gets appropriate tuning!

EDIT2: RW too!
