Step 1: Pug because you don’t have any tanks.
Step 2: Try your best during the dungeon and be “the guy”.
Definition: “The guy” is the person who does the thing in the dungeon. The whole dungeon. Everytime. Need someone to kick something be “The guy”. Need something soothed, cc, or focused? Well my friend you need “The guy”. Need someone to do a tricky boss mechanic like run bombs or soak a swirly well let me tell you about “The guy”.
Step 3: Finish the dungeon.
Step 4: Evaluate the performance of the tank and healer through the dungeon. If they did poorly, say ‘gg, thanks for the invite’, hearth, and go back to step 1. If the healer or tank did well go to step 5.
Step 5: Whisper the tank or healer or both! Tell them:
“Hey,insert player’s name that key was fun! Could I have your btag so we can run some keys in the future?”
Note use their name! It makes your message more personal. If you target them and type %t it will change to their name when you message them. Getting all their funny characters right doing this can impress a tank or healer!
Step 6: Amass an army of healers and tanks in your friends list who play well, the same times as you, and who you like.
Step 7: Never pug again.
Step 8: Cut a hole in the box.

totally agree, although tanking has its own drama
I don’t even see any raid drama. No delve drama. Haven’t seen much pvp drama.
M+ MEGA drama.
as a tank, can confirm this works. I have friends i made from keys and we still do stuff lmao

Find a tank in only a few easy steps:
- Draw a pentagram on the ground
- Incant the words “klaatu barada nikto”

I’m convinced this filter system was a major net-negative for M+. All it has done was make it so every turns on the filter option to only show groups with a tank which has downstream effects of all the other groups just sitting in purgatory.
Not to mention the they gigantic bug where you can’t filter by key level anymore without it only showing a few dungeons.
If you had the time and inclination, you could probably coax a newbie tank into low keys and train them up using pings and dog treats until they pair bond with you.
They’re probably just unsure about routes.

Just saying from a tank PoV you then get picky from the people you have added cause some will be pumpers (good) and some you’ve pity carried and are more just good company (bad, only run with them sometimes or remove them after a bit).
I’ll also tank and heal for people who do the same for me.
that’s exactly it for me. I love playing tanks in world content. I usually am the guy tanking world bosses. I’ll tank for Timewalking. But this stuff with needing to know the packs to shortcut and packs not to, where everyone is in this hyper competitive state. I really don’t want any part of that. I know not all PUG groups are nightmares. But the ones that are really are the great filter in keeping the tank pool from growing. That’s a very sink or swim deep end way to learn that’s not for everyone
The follower dungeons are actually a really great tool to get a feel for the routes.
I wasn’t sure about Dawn breaker for my first time, so I opened up a route map online and queued for a follower dungeon of dawn breaker.
I had all the time in the world to look at the map and the game and train myself on which packs are needed and which aren’t.
I then applied to a +4 and smashed it out.
