So I was looking for rares in Nazjatar with warmode on when I got attacked by a rogue. This rogue must have been around 430 ilevel tops and I am 471 ilevel with a full set of corruptions. Despite this, the rogue managed to beat me. It was a close fight, but the fact is that an ungeared rogue managed to beat me dispite the difference in stat power means I obviously must be doing something wrong, unless scaling had to do with this. The fight went sort of like this from my standpoint.
-
Got stunned, attacked, stunned with between the eyes.
-
A bunch of other attacks(not exactly sure what they were).
-
Popped cooldowns, he blinded and then vashined away and vailed.
-
I started following him and he was hugging the wall of some ruins. Had a hard time getting.
-
I thunder storm him at the edge to add some distance between us.
-
He vanished then I get another wave of stuns then next thing I know I am dead. However I did have him down to around 25k health before he got me.
Any tips for properly fighting rogues or at least getting them to fully retreat would be appreciated.
It is very simple!
- Run away
- Recruit 4 other players
- Recruit 35 more players
- Win
It is the Alliance way. Join us! And you won’t have this problem again!

Anything for 1v1 scenarios?
Yo, As a person who loves my shaman (Sorry my shaman was on a different account. Long story), you don’t have options against rogues. They pretty much win in almost every situation. It sucks and thats why in the shaman forum I keep asking to be able to use Astral Shift during stun. Our biggest enemy is rogue.

watch some arena footage from elems on youtube?
in WPvP, there’s probably not much you could have done. Nothing is limited and we don’t have the logs so he could have used potions, items god knows what else and we’ll never know.

More to the point though, you’re clearly specced for PvE with your main talents and he may have been for specced for PvP. Stormkeeper would have made a huge difference for you.
-
As far as your pvp talents, control of lava is probably where you let yourself down most, 1v1 especially against a rogue of all classes not having instant LBs is honestly probably what killed you.
-
Additionally, you had adaptation and not the active CC break talent so you had no control over when to break a stun, which also may have made the difference.
All that said, I don’t think this was a personal issue just a bad matchup.

You’re never going to beat a rogue who knows what they are doing 1v1 in wpvp as a ele shaman.

People play rogues specifically to do pvp, so they’re more skilled than the average player. Most pve players don’t play rogues.
It isn’t exactly skillful to play a rogue. It’s literally just combos and being a coward.
Shamans aren’t really a threat, sorry OP.
Pull a guardian druid out of your pocket and throw it like a magic bean.
Thank you for the information. Sometimes the setup I have works very well against some other classes. I’ll consider some changes for pvp. Although you are right. I do some pvp, but my main focus is mythic+ and an assortment of other random wow goals that involve open world stuff.

Could try going resto for some situations.
Just do the shaman classic: die, wait for them to leave, reincarnate.

Just wait /dance until it’s over and then be on your way
Call a dh and he/she will eat that rogue for you
You can’t. He’s a rogue and you are a shaman. He is the best 1v1 class and you are the worst.

Kite them with frostshock / earthbind totem as your ele’s kill them while throwing out instant LB’s, earth shocks and lightning lasso on CD, they’ll trinket the first and die in the second.
If they kick you on heal just hex them and heal in their face, if they trinket hex they die to lasso.

Your versatility is too low for PvP and pick C&S as your major essence . Makes a big difference against rogues. You shd have beaten the 430 rogue but it’s rogues are just a hard matchup for a shaman. Historically we have been hard countered by Rogues.
Adaptation is a terrible choice against rogues . They blind you and then you are open for a complete stun lock. Also you need to pick Lasso, which is a must have PvP talent.
force their trinket(pvp crowd control removal) with one of your many abilities that make him unable to move, slows, stuns, hex ect, then literally just make sure you have flameshock up and an elemental before lightning lassoing him to death.
forcing a trinket is easiest when you noted he popped his cooldowns, hell be more likely to break cc to not waste big damage.

As a caster? Not really.
Not many can actually “beat” a Rogue in a 1v1 because its just one of those classes that can constantly restart the fight.
