Hi, I need a new comp to take with me when i travel. Can i just copy the Wow folder from my home comp to an external drive and then to my new travel comp and that’s it? of course i’ll install twitch for addons and the battle net app. But is it that simple, just copy the wow folder and move it over and ill have everything just like it is but now on 2 comps? Thanks for any advice.
It is basically as simple as connecting the external to your current computer, copying over the Warcraft folder and than connecting it to the new computer!
You’ll also need to install the Blizzard launcher to the new computer and than be sure that the launcher knows the drive the game is on.
Awesome! Thank you for confirming this. I was really dreading having to reset up all my addons again. That would be horrific.
Personally I would recommend backing up the settings for add-ons, but doing a fresh install. Sometimes dragging around a copy can cause registry issues.
Ya, I thought that might be an issue but backing up the addon settings isn’t something I know how to do. Is it fairly easy to explain by chance?
in your world of warcraft/_retail_
folder, you’ll see a folder called WTF, and a folder called interface. these contain your addons and their settings.
when you install the game on the new computer, delete the WTF and interface folders in the new _retail_
folder, if they are there, and then paste your two copied folders in.
Thank you for this!
One other thing that I would do is to delete the Config file. That will have settings for your current machine. Let the game detect your new system. The Config file is in the WTF folder. If the file isn’t there the install will configure a new one.
So in the WTF folder there is an Account folder ,a SavedVariables folder, and a config.wtf file. So I’ll just copy the Account folder and the SavedVariables folder over then and leave the Config.wtf file alone?
Yes … I would copy the WTF folder then simply delete the Config.wtf file or rename it to Config.old
