Without starting a new character?
You can’t. They say you can get a bunch of people to report your name and they’ll force you to change it, but I don’t know if that works.
Technically. . . .
You can delete your character. Create a new character with that same name on the same server. Then go into your account services and restore said character. When the character gets restored. You will have to rename it.
At least so I’ve been told. I’m not willing to take that risk.
They’ve kind of fixed that. You can still do that but you need a friend or a different account to make the lvl 1 with the name you want to change.

Pretty sure that doesn’t work. It actually reserves your deleted characters name for month. So yeah, if you want to let it sit there for a month you could, otherwise nope.

They must have closed that loophole then because we used it a lot at the start of classic.
Make an urban dictionary definition of your name as something horrifically vile, and then get people to spam report it with a link to it.
BOOM - new name.
Can probably just have your entire guild report your name and eventually trip the system into automating the name change.
Only reason I shy from that is because I’ve heard if it is the guild it can look like a report bug abuse.
Not sure if that is true or not though.
This is kind of anecdotal as I personally have no experience with it but I have heard people have also done shady crap like that to force people (or bots) out of farm areas by using it to disconnect the person.
