I am on Chapter 3 of 7 with a level 65. I have researched sopranian understanding. I have already completed the Zereth Mortis storyline on one character.
There are two black pylons blocking the door to the mount crafting area and genesis motes are still not dropping for me.
How far do I need to get on my second character to start farming Genesis Motes?
Someone who knows more about Zerith Mortis should please chime in and correct any mistakes I put here, but I think you have to open Pocopoc and do enough of the questing to have it lead you there, which (again, I think) includes that entire third area in the north, slightly east-ish part.
I believe there’s a quest that Pocopoc gives you at one point to go to the crafting area. I think that’s what starts the process.
You have to unlock one of the branches far enough to get it; unfortunately I don’t remember which one specifically.
Okay, thanks guys, so i’m guessing that I need to finish chapter 4 or 5.
Yeah it’s been roughly one and a half lifetimes since I did all that.
Best advice is to just keep doing the campaign quests and advancing the research tree.

If there is anyone out there wondering – I did not need to go beyond chapter 3. Once I researched sopranian understanding – all I had to do was summon pocopoc. He offered me a yellow quest to make battle pets and that allowed me to start looting genesis motes.
