Okay, so these guys. I want to hear strategies to beat them. I don’t care what class, I just want some knowledge. I main a rogue (he’s 60) and finally got to spec for pvp. Outside of blind on sac > sap and wait out the shield (which feels dirty) I don’t see a way around it. So as much as this hurts me, teach me about them…
Shadow reflector? Until PvP trinket it’s gonna be rough.
They’re really useless when they’re stunned. Back in vanilla, they began their 10 year long complaint about rogues stun locking them and they just die never getting a single cast off.
It’s just practice. It’s simple in theory but really easy to mess it up.
Locks in general will counter a rogue.
Easiest way for a rogue to kill a lock is with cheese, some trinket or avoidance to wait out the sac shield.
Sleep dust or CC items will help
But effectively against a demonology build you have to cut through 6k+health(shield) while they have free rein and no spell pushback
If you don’t kill them in the immediate stun combo, they have the advantage
My usual combo when I get ambushed by a rogue is Sac my VW, into Death coil, fear dot, IC VW back pewpew then sac again if the rogues not already dead
I’ve yet to see a rogue able to burn me down once I’ve gotten my sacrifice off, unless they have a pocket healer
Should watch this and take some notes, hope it helps.
I’ve got to duel one Lock and he did just that. I can’t honestly let one out of cc. If you get that Death Coil off it’s gg. Locks aren’t even stacking stamina yet. I did beat a shadow priest yesterday tho
Ye do not take notes from this video. First clip he dispels SL of the voidwalker, smth that isnt possible in vanilla (not sure if it works in classic, if it does its a bug).
Also these duels are tailored around the duel so everyone is geared up for each other. Its not reflective of world pvp or any normal encounter you have with another person.
Also, both of these characters have bis. At the current gear lvl SL lock just outshines rogue DPS because meele scales a lot better with gear. So the numbers here are not indictaive of any encounter you have now in the wild.
Without going too much into it, if you actually face a good lock, who knows how to play your chances of winning vs SL at the moment are next to zero. And the odds are not going up. The spec is just very powerful, there is no trinket in the game (as UD you have an easier time) and unless you vanish coils you are probably going to die.
Combine that with orc lock for instance and one stun resist means you are pretty much dead (again vs a good lock). If you face a bad one you can still die because they just tank damage but rogue has tools to counter it.
I main shadow for leveling, and SL locks are the toughest thing I face. Particularly because they are often higher level. Shadow reflector is a great option if you have engineering.
If not, stack resistance. I got a +14 ring, a +10 to cloak, my racial, and the priest buff. I’m working on more, but even at 80 it’s shifted fights.
Warlocks always have 3 seconds CC at the start when they use deathcoil. You can’t stop that without a reflector or trinket, since it’s horror if I remember right. Locks will either DC into fear, or a shadow bolt. If it’s fear, I use will of the forsaken.
SL links are vulnerable to purge. Their sac shield can be purged. They are also vulnerable to interrupts. You can’t drain tank if you’re shadow locked. They’re also vulnerable to losing their pets. 30% of your burst is hitting that pet. If it’s anything but a voidwalker kill it fast.
A warlock can only instant summon a pet once every 15 minutes. If that’s on cooldown they’re screwed. It’s all about getting them on the defensive. If I can do that a single mana burn usually ends the fight, because I can cleanse a lot of their damage and the rest won’t get through my shield / resistances.
Pshero uploaded a vid today dueling a SL lock

As a rogue, if they’re good you don’t.
Shadow reflector and being undead help. Vanishing or reflecting a coil is huge but really not something you can count on.
An undead rogue crying about warlocks is something that makes me laugh. Once you get a pvp trinket, you are a complete counter to warlocks. Oh and for all those wanna-be hemo rogues, go get some daggers. The best way to counter a warlock is burst damage. At this point, unless a lock is full t1/t2 they won’t have more than 3.5k health so you can pretty much 2shot them with decent gear.
Ps non-undead rogues shouldn’t ever beat a half decent warlock before pvp trinkets though.
SL locks are the single best 1v1 class in the game. As a lock you should understand this. Yes I have the tools to fight them, but I literally cannot let them out of cc. Seems you don’t understand your own class yet.
You don’t!
I played a rogue in vanilla. I killed many warlocks because i out bursted them. Sl has the lowest damage of any spec for warlocks, if you are losing a dps race to a warlock who only has 1 way to get you off of him, that’s your fault. Use mind numbing/wound and you will make warlocks smash their keyboards.
Oh also if you cc the pet it can’t sac shield while ccd.
Knowing your opponents abilities are more important than knowing your own as a rogue most of the time.
Shunye I’m not bursting them down through two sacs. It’s NOT a dps race. It’s a control fight.
That sl lock was so terrible, i have played that class 3 times on a instant 60 servers and even I can tell why he lost. Pshero likes to upload fights where he wins, just like any pvper.
This lock is not the standard.
How are you not able to? Are you fighting someone who greatly outgears you? An sl lock has literally no damage outside of corruption/agony and deathcoil. You can kick/gouge/kidney any drains. Unless you are combat or hemo using non-daggers, locks should be an easy kill.
Also if a warlock is stacking stam at this tier, they have no spell damage too so there is really no excuse.
I’ll definitely watch it, but yeah streamers are there for views.
It will be fine once you get a perdition blade or gutgore ripper. The pre-60 daggers don’t really pack enough punch to tear down casters who are stacking hp. Perdition blade will make you a warlock’s worst nightmare though. The rogue in my guild that got one basically 2-3shots anyone that isn’t a prot warrior.
