How many of you prefer to play the role you dreamed of or desire?
Where you are acting out the role, choosing the outcomes you decide and the fate you wish to have happen?
You may be tired of waiting for stories or events to happen in a guild. Why wait for things to be put together for a short period of experience then be over.
Guilds are great when they are spontaneous and the guild leaders can create events without worry but are terrible when they lack compulsive creativity and only meet once a week. When an event is planned out and then it lasts for a brief while then back to boring nothing.
It sounds far fetched and likely impossible especially on a large server like Moon Guard, but it is totally possible for many to play solo. You just have to decide how far you wish to go and are you willing to be a pariah.
When i say pariah, I mean someone who is seen as wrong by so many others, even your friends but you can just shrug it off and go with what you choose. It is your game choice after all.
Let me give you a little backstory as to why i am writing this piece.
As you see in my name, my avatar, and my guild name, I am the self appointed âEmpress of Pandariaâ.
Maybe a little too far reaching or boasting but when you play a role as long as I have and not switching out characters daily, like Roger from American Dad switches out personas, you kind of become the character. It becomes your main, your life, and your responsibility.
I rarely see visitors (most were getting their fill from the remix and easy access to the mounts) so pandaria is secluded and almost empty at times. I think most players have anything pandaria related at the bottom of the ladder of places to visit.
Even when an event is hosted like the Chinese New Year Celebration the attendees instantly flee back to wherever else and hardly stay a week for the ambiance. There is little love for the Pandaren race and even less for the country.
There are a few players I see and try to engage with that love to tell me that they donât take me seriously or have to put their two cents in that they have a problem with my role.
I tell them i can remedy it, say good bye, and put them on ignore. No last word or power for them, try as they might. Iâm not trying to lord over others so why do it to me?
You donât approve thatâs fine, but donât try to act like your opinions decide how others play their roles.
(Btw I am a civil servant for the races of Pandaria. I solve the problems and keep the peace at any cost of self. I donât tell others what to do. I never desired it.)
Breathe in⌠and⌠breathe out⌠Inner PeaceâŚ
Back to the topic, being your own captain of your own ship means you may end up being alone. Some may think that is a scary thought but again, you are the writer of your own story. You can always captain a ship of ghosts even if they are the ghosts of your mind.
Some music artists perform alone like Taylor Swift, some perform in unison like One-Direction. And some play roles in a group each alone in their own spot but they create something worthwhile, like any sports team or team of artists/dancers/etc.
If you chose to be a solo role player, stick to your story, or try to find one that you enjoy but hope that others might also like and can approach you with. Or be a supreme all powerful diety that cannot die and will bring ruin to the rest of the world.
Ever watch the Amazing world of Gumball, there is an Episode called âThe Safetyâ i thinkâŚwhere Darwin becomes an all-powerful ruler like Hitler but for the safety reasons. Even his own enforcers must be safe with their knee pads, balloon batons, and face shields. Watch the episode if you havenât, its an absolute funny thing.
Be that thing if you must ^v^
Secondly, pick a place that is unique, off the beaten path. One that no one else can judge you about because âHey am i going to see you there often or a lot along with me?â
Off topic but who still plays a role in outland? Its old, its forgotten, its part of the history that makes some of us who we are. But who ever returns or stays in Outland these days?
Is it like the Sahara Desert? You hear about it, youâve seen photos of it, you hear tales about it; but you wouldnât be caught dead actually visiting it on holiday or for a week long sand dune surfing excursion.
Pick a place that is unused by the masses. So many forget their roots or are tied to the same place of origin. How many worgen players have you seen that set their roots among the trappers of the Grizzly Hills? The curse did spread there too after all.
Lastly, pick a title for yourself. Guild names also work well as actual titles to identify with. They give you the autonomy that you desire while showcasing a bit about yourself and what your character is, even from a distance.
Shame that they donât allow the King/Queen words in guild names (last i checked) otherwise it would be nice to let others be the ruler. There used to be a Gnome who identified herself as the âQueen of Fashionâ thought that might have been on WRA not MG, long before the transmog style event came to be.
Whatever you decide stick to it. Donât get discouraged or let others put you down just to elevate themselves as âsuperior roleplayersâ. Let the âalliancesâ have their power over others but donât think for one second that you need to be accepted by them. Thatâs just their attempt at deciding who runs how things need to be on Moon Guard.
(Ironic how the word isnât ârolesplayerâ, âmultiple roles-one playerâ thing.
