Alright. Lets agree to make those experiences of higher quality, rather than of poorer quality.
That’s an interesting generalization to baselessly make. As one of those people, I disagree, thus disproving your claim.
There was a reason why people thought Vanilla gameplay was worthy of preservation.
That reason isn’t likely to be identical for every player. In my opinoin, it was because the gameplay had an inherent value. It was the combat, the itemization systems and constraints, and the content.
For me, it wasn’t so you could force vast team power imbalances because you wanted rank 14 gear. Players who are are negatively affecting the integrity of the gameplay defend their right to do so for purposes of personal gain.
They’re hiding that intention behind a mask of ‘preservation’ and ‘nochanges’ that only serves to reduce the quality of the gameplay which pervades the game and leave it in a de-naturalized state as a result of implementations like increased bracket sizes and cross server battlegrounds, which leave the game feeling altered and inauthentic.
Vanilla was, to many players who enjoyed it, the height of the game’s integrity, even if the systems weren’t perfect – such as in the case of premade groups dominating a game type players could queue for alone.
If there was something worthy of preservation from that period in the game’s history, I don’t believe it was the systems which had the effect of reducing the quality of its gameplay. Premades have always had an unnecessarily negative effect on the experience of combat in PvP content to the detriment of every player who seeks itemized reward from the PvP endgame progression system; either by providing no challenge, or by presupposing an insurmountable one as a direct result of a player controlled variable in a competitive game format – which frequently had the effect of forcing vast team quality imbalances.
I have always seen premades as an abuse of matchmaking systems which offers undeserved benefit to the players exploiting them, because most games which propose to pit a premade team against a pug is a free win for the players who queued as a team – effectively eliminating the fair contest between teams which is supposed to happen after the match starts, and not before.
The result is, and always has been, poor quality gameplay in every case where a premade is matchmade with a pug. To suggest otherwise is indefensible.
