How to add a button to the minimap?

I want to open my addon’s options menu from a button on the Minimap frame. I’m not too familiar with design of the Blizzard UI and don’t quite where to start. I’m happy to read about how this might be accomplished if someone could point to a starting point.

Well, I’ve been hoping to avoid XML and do everything in Lua, but I’m game to try and this looks pretty promising.

The XML shown in the thread is only used to include files, like an extension to the .toc. You don’t need XML to use LibDBIcon.
