How to actually fix healing substantially

Since being banned for the 40th time in a year I decided to contemplate what would make healing less annoying. The answer is voice communication in solo shuffle but I came up with another somewhat obvious but not often spoken about potential solution that I think would make healers life improve and actually end games faster without raising burst substantially. Burst is in a weird state games can go on forever but burst can also suddenly end them.

Anyway my idea revolves around Defensive CDs. Many of these CDs are on short cooldowns but offer nearly no actual protection against damage. I think they should nerf the cooldown duration (increase the cooldown) of defensives, but they should increase in power dramatically. One pain point for healers is people not using CD’s especially high and your DPS can die through them while you watch from your 50th micro CC in a row, we all hate the stamina change but you know people died like disgustingly fast to MICRO CC before they made that change. What if instead of that change CD’s weren’t dogwater and actually made you live unless you press them really really low like execute range low.

If defensive Cd’s were longer cooldown we might actually see players die in arena tournament matches were players use defensives really well before deep dampening. I also think it may bring back greeding in a significant way as knowing how strong CD’s are could be a source of competitive advantage/skill. Lastly no defensive CD in the game should benefit from cooldown reduction this is annoying and oppresive.

Just food for thought.

Healers don’t have agency over the game, damage is too high for the average healer to actually heal and make an impact with the amount of instant CC and high lvls of dampening in solo shuffle, why play when you are gimped that much? Its no fun at all for such a niche role, especially when you heal 2 uncoordinated team members on opposite sides of the map.

The game shouldn’t need voice, why should someone flop in the duration of 1 stun or because they didnt press block/wall within half a second? We are not playing CSGO and shouldn’t need instant reaction time. I am playing at 200ms from OCE…

They could change alot for healers though to make it more interesting. Some ideas, as examples:

  • Give longer CCs to healers, cut down CC durations for DPS, especially instant CC durations.
  • change DR’s for example DPS only get 2 DRs(against healers only) before immunity from the same school, Healer CC gets the full 3(against healers).
  • different trinkets usable with medallion:
    • prevent the next stun within 2 seconds on an ally - 90 sec cd - healers only trinket
    • prevent the next disorient within 2 second on an ally - 90 sec cd - healers only trinket
    • etc… for each DR.
  • More charges of dispel or reduced cooldown.
  • reduce the amount of DPS modifiers in arena.

Anyways, those are my fried ideas to shake things up and make it easier for healers to actually play the game.

ok tuckyb but i got a question.

If they added voice comms, can they monitor them? Or could someone spew some extremely racist stuff in them without being punished.

Because either way that’d be a pretty interesting way forh ealers to hate themselves more lmao

And my personal hot take on this is simple;

Defensives for everyone needs to be meaningfully impactful, however they need to have longer CDs while damage needs to not be yoyoing. If you have all 3 of those, it rewards extremely good cooldown rotation on a team, and punishes overlapping. ALong with it, it really pushes people to play better and setup properly. Mess up a DR? Suddenly that means your kill window is harder because they’ll have CDs for your big go.

E.g. DHs can have Glimpse, Blur, Darkness and netherwalk. But their passive defensives need to be gutted, and blur needs its CD higher. You do that, they can be punished by everyone but it rewards outplays with glimpse.

  1. Who cares they already have voice chat in other games.
  2. I think not having voice creates a more toxic environment especially when rating is on the line who hasn’t been abused. Everyone hyper fixates on the negatives but the benefits are potentially much more impactful for gameplay.

As for people saying racist things rather than typing them who cares have thicker skin they already do voice in other games.

I find it funny we all probably think our game is more complicated or at least has more buttons therefore more interactions but we think we should be using the same communication method as the 4 button game … (pings).

  1. I don’t know for sure but it might make it easier to see who is a bot or who is wint trading.

If someone ruins their DR you can outplay them with kiting/movement. You don’t need to have a CD up all the time I think it would be better if we ran out of CD’s and died faster. Would also reduce games coming down to mana or stalling out so long.

Cool idea in theory, but I think actual gameplay proves this kinda moot.

Prior to the ret rework where SOV got buffed and ret got Barkskin, ret paladin was one of the most killed classes. Bubble is a long cd, but extremely powerful defensive; same with bop. Long cd, but strong defensives were not keeping rets alive.

Feral druid now has survival instincts which is the strongest non-talent-buffed-wall at 50% dr. Feral is THE most killed spec in the game.

Meanwhile look at classes like DH, warlock, and SP. They are EXTREMELY durable. Yes, they have solid defensives in dark pact+wall/blur+nether/disperse, but the biggest thing that makes them so much more survivable and frankly easy to heal is the passive hps and tankiness added to their kits.

That’s what I’m advocating for strong defensives and people die after for everyone. I’m not trying to prolong games I want to shorten them without adding burst.

I’d add outlaw to the list of un-necessarily tanky classes that never run out of defensive cooldowns and keep games going longer than they should.

Ahh sorry, I misunderstood. I should’ve read the second half of your OP more closely. Yeah, I agree with that, then.

I am constantly surprised how little people are willing to speak in RSS. I always ask for target or apologize for a defensive overlap. Sometimes I get a response, but most of the time I don’t. I wish at the very least the other dps would tell me what their preferred target is during the match.

Should know who to hit. “Who?” Is insta ignore.

I wish I knew this months ago………this explains why nobody ever responds to me. I think I’ve been ignored by the entirety of the arena population. I typically say, “target?” though. Does that change things?

Insta ignore

Who?

this is one of the few posts on these echo chamber forums that actually makes sense. most of the posts are people thinking they have better ideas than they actually pan out to be. ideas have to be converted & designed for the system to execute & while I realize this is someone else’s job it’s just oblivious to many who post here.

this one post addresses some of the biggest problems. nobody complains about CC or micro CC in PvE because it’s a bot you’re using it on. once you get a player behind the screen sitting in 30 seconds of CC what do you expect them to trinket? most of the games I’ve lost this season alone have been due to constant disruption on me. it is absolutely the most annoying experience so why are we surprised healers don’t queue? especially when some healers don’t even have CC or the CC they do have is outdated 15 year old design & then 1 class alone (DH) has a ranged AOE fear, ranged single target stun, PBAOE stun, and a ranged banish.

like I said before, I don’t think moving a slider bar to the left or to the right via a nerf or buff is the right answer even though 95% of these forums are screaming for buffs or nerfs.

lastly, if I were Blizzard/MS I would do the bare minimum to please the PvP community solely based on my recent experiences posting here. a lot of people here are egotistical, entitled, and downright toxic. it’s hilariously naive to expect a multi-billion dollar organization to cater to these people. I don’t blame them one bit for not posting or communicating here.

Disc as no option to spec an interrupt or access to a stun. The only spec in the game without access to the option of one of these. Also 0% pick rate AWC and only classic healer to never win a Blizzcon.

In my opinion there is way too problems within the core of the game itself. Damage is way too high. Healers are way too weak. Dampening rampening fasted than it ever has before (shuffle experience) plus stacking mortal strike. The best way to solve these problems is to buff healing inside arenas (open world healing is insanely broken on all healers) this includes battlegrounds. Give all healers except RDruid another button to press. Give healers faster globals baseline. Slow down DPS globals. There is so many options they can do but instead they choose just to slap on a few changes to tell us that we are in a caster meta by nerfing plate armor and buffing cloth armor on top of that telling us what classes will be strong this season. Then nerfing DH a few times it’s still insanely broken. Rdruid takes two nerfs still the best healer. They could also add legion templates so the tuning is less. Most people hate templates and that’s fine but that was the most balance the game ever was.

Tier sets are insane for almost every spec. War within is also going to promote more insane damage burst windows & healing burst windows making it possibly feel more overwhelming than it is now plus gear will go up, damage will go up, & healing will slightly move.

In shadowlands, we had 80k ish HP at the end of the expansion. From season 2 DF conquest gear to season 3 honor gear our health almost doubled before conquest gear. If anyone doesn’t see that as a problem… you should check again & think does that sound logical?

Until these problems get solved in the core system of the game, it’s only going to get worse as each season / expansion goes on as “the numbers goes up”.

The same thing is also happening in m+ as an example. Rdruid FW are the only two good healers past 24+. Everything else struggles.

Am I the only one who sees this? I feel like healers are in a major depression lol

The only time I’ve actually had fun healing was in S1 as disc when I could actually have some chunky damage and solidify some kills. Right now, Disc just feels horrible.
