I hated it when they revamped the Priest Class in 2005 and Shadow Priests became a thing.
Warlocks would be Legion Align-Night Elves… which if I recall my questing in Ashenvale/Felwood Satyrs are Night Elves who fell to the Legion’s influence.
IIRC, Xavius fell to the Legion, then betrayed the Legion for the Old Golds to create the Emerald Nightmare.
Actually, the Alliance accepted them, Not Night Elf Society, to top off Night Elf society doesn’t really accept the Mages that Joined either, but allow them for the Greater good. However with changes to Night Elf culture coming post Teldrassil, and with Tyrande going Void… I mean “Night Warrior” who knows what she’ll do to strengthen her people and kill the Banshee Queen. Lore wise, the opening for Night Elf Warlocks could happen.
scratches head thinking huh?
You have fully confused me.
If we don’t get high mountain or Zandalari warlocks, alliance doesn’t get nelf warlocks.
Before Legion, Warlocks weren’t really going around bragging about how they’re Warlocks.
Deal if you guys are ok with Dwarves getting Druids + Wildhammer tattoos.
They didn’t have warlocks. They were mages. Immol’thar was summoned secretly by Tor’theldrin and was bound with pylons, not by any magic warlocks use. None of them use fel or summon demons or even drained that Void Terror in any similar manner as a Warlock.
One Highborne figuring out how to get a demon to be bound by five pylons doesn’t a mass of warlocks make.
In lore, all Warlocks had to be Magic users before starting down the Dark Fel path to become a Warlock. Elves, Humans, and Gnomes were mages before lusting for Fel Power, Orcs, & Trolls were Shaman prior to becoming Warlocks. The only race which can lore-wise allow for a child to learn Fel magic first would be Goblins, as they will do anything for a profit, even force a child to study the Fel instead of other more accepted Magical paths.
Remember ALL Highborn Elves were Mages, the young High Elf Learns to channel arcane energy though it’s body before they go to school and learn their class, Blood Elves and Void Elves are High Elves from Silvermoon, in lore your character and mine would have learned Arcane lore and how to read a Mages Spell Book as children. All races with Demon Hunters, and Warlocks do not train their children to become these things. These are adult choices the character makes after being raised to do something else.
Now for fun, you can RP your warlock started out as a priest, and became a warlock, that fits the lore well enough, hell My Mog right now looks a bit priestly.
But to reiterate, all Demon Hunters and Warlocks started out as something prior before taking the path they choose.
Illidan was a Mage who tried to become a Druid, who became a Warlock then a Demon, he called what he is Demon Hunter, but the Reality is Illidan is a Demon Warlock who focuses on melee. As are all Demon Hunters.
Gul’dan was a Shaman.
Every lore Warlock and Demon Hunter has their previous class told in their story. Most were Mages.
Note: Rogues fall into this a bit as well with some Races, but not all. ie Night Elf rogues are warriors who use stealth, and become Thieves.
I think warlocks are a hidden class on alliance side, you can’t walk with your demons in SW, you have to pretend you are a mage or something. Maybe we have shen’dralar warlocks in night elf society and we don’t know.
