How the heck do Gnomes come up with their last names?

I’m in Stormwind and I see Arielle Snapflash. She is the Gnome who helps you get the Selfie Stick. So does this mean that before the selfie stick was invented little Arielle Snapflash, had a last name that didn’t mean anything?

Did she spend her whole life working on something that would go with the words Snapflash? Is that how Gnomes work? They have these crazy last names and devout their life to make sure that their profession/purpose in life matches up?

None of them as creative and awesome as my name of course

At first gnomes take on the surname of their parents when growing up. But by adulthood, which I think is around 40 for them, they’re expected to change it to new personal names for themselves. Usually based on their accomplishments or lifestyle and such.

If Arielle invented the Selfie camera, or is just a photographer in general, then she’ll have taken the Snapflash name later on in life.

Aww. You are so cute! I could hug you forever and ever.

Gilneans who turn into Worgen do this too. I can imagine they weren’t given the surname “Ripsnarl” before they became a werewolf.

Gnome names are so weird and convoluted, just use a generator and see what it spits out

Poor Jiklildink. His get-rich-quick schemes always fizzle.

They all take dramatic stage names as part of their journeymen training for their craft.

Pfffff WRONG!

The last name isgiven to the. Based on to the sound they make while flying in the air after being punted.

“Snapflash” probably means the punt made her go supersonic, hence the snap-flash.

“Coghammer” is my favorite, they sound just like that when they hit the floor. Clank!

I read somewhere (possibly wowpedia) that gnomes tend to get their last names from things they invented or some form of major accomplishment. Could be wrong though

Their surnames change if they invent something brand new.

Either it’s a happy coincidence or she worked tirelessly her entire life to invent something that impressed her parents and gave some semblance of meaning and value to her family name. The latter sounds better.
