Nothing I posted is anecdotal. This is information released by blizzard to it’s shareholders in it’s quarterly report. I quite deliberately didn’t engage in speculation about the numbers long term.
No, I meant my comment that is about to follow is anecdotal
Yeah, sorry. I missed that nuance until after I posted my comment and reread yours. My bad
It drove up quartly numbers, so from a Blizz perspective, I’d say it was a success. It’s not like they put a huge amount of man power or effort into this.
It’s done well imo, considering its a 15 year old game that wasn’t really handle well by Blizzard (and the screaming no change crowd) and isnt even close to being perfect game.
Considering Classic is basically a port run by a skeleton crew of devs, I’d say it was very successful financially.
Quite lucrative…
for the Chinese economy!
hahahahahah
I remember watching jokerd hit 60 on twitch, over 300k viewers at the time.
I don’t think I’ve seen retail get anywhere near those numbers since like cata.
Granted it was one time only but still, classic hype!!
I like many others have actually uninstalled retail and play the game I love with classic.
Agreed!
I think from what we know (the increase in numbers of servers after launch, the reported historically largest quarterly increase in subs*), seems to point to it having been incredibly successful.

That is a very large number! Even the so-called “literal god” tends to have more like 45K viewers (though he may have had more during peak times - I’m certainly no expert when it comes to streamers).
It’d probably be better if the terrible world buff meta hadn’t driven off so many players.
As much as I personally don’t care about world buffs, I whole-heartedly doubt this claim.
I think having the world buff META actually retains more players than it loses.
I really don’t think this is true. Most of the players we’ve lost over the last couple months have quit because they were sick of getting world buffs to be competitive.
That’s an interesting statement! I certainly don’t have any data to refute it, but I could just say, “Nah… you’re wrong,” and the burden of proof is on you.
But of course, we’re just giving our opinions, and yours is as valid as mine in that respect, without any support.
You might be right.
