Ive been thinking of switching over to venthyr from kyrian mostly for ashen hallow was just wondering if its a good aoe heal or not.
Ashen Hallow is a small trickle. It can help ease the burden of the healers ever so slightly but it won’t save the group outright, especially in a raid scenario.
It does, let’s say, 6000 damage and healing over 30 seconds. That’s only about 200 healing a second, maybe 1-2% per tic, and that number goes down with more than 5 people. The biggest strength is the synergy with The Mad Paragon and Crusade allowing you to go crazy with Hammer of Wrath, not the healing component.
I definitely will pop Ashen Hallow in a damage heavy portion of a fight. Like Kaol said, it definitely won’t heal the group/raid. BUT, it WILL help mitigate some of the damage thus giving the healers a bit of breathing room when things are starting to go insane. I’ve definitely enjoyed watching AH crit as well. Normally it will crit up to about 2K, and that is very helpful, but crit heals that high doesn’t happen too often.
On the plus side, you also get HoW for the whole duration as well, which definitely helps boost your dps. And on top of that Venthyr souldbinds for ret are the best in the business. Both Theotar and Nadjia are on the top of the dps soul bind list. just depends on if you prefer haste over mastery.
appreciate it fellas i was thinking since pally aoe healing is utterly terrible i was thinking maybe i can use that spell as my big aoe cd comparable to a druids tranquility or something.
IMO it was never good to begin with. 4 minute cool down is horrible. VERY situational. Kyr is the overall champ
But you have to stand in something just to get the buffs which isn’t realistic in raiding or Mythic plus. Very situational
Sure, but at least in most situations in nathria, you can assume a drop of AH and most likely the boss will stay in it. I’ll use it on hungering destroyer, artificer Xymox, council of blood, and sludgfist. So yes, definitely situational, but helpful nonetheless.
I do hope the drop the CD on it. It drives me crazy that I can essentially use it once per fight. Even if they did it every 3 minutes so it doesn’t line up with wings would be better.
I really like venthyr a lot for pvp. I purposely get myself into situations where I’m outnumbered, bubble the first stun or whatever, ashen hallow, Seraphim/ wings and go nuts throwing out 18-30k hammers.
I like to bubble first, it baits people into standing in the ashen hallow more often when they see me as an easy kill without bubble. Little do they know they’re about to get rocked.
Ashen Hallow can be wonderful in BGs. While it won’t keep you alive by itself, a knowledgable player can use it to keep themselves alive for a while, effectively creating a no go zone. There have been matches where I held a point solo against a push cycling abilities to focus on staying alive.
That said, the difference in time is notable. With DT you can at least try and force a kill every minute, which is practically every fight when you factor in rez timers. AH has its place, but it’s use is too clunky because of its CD.
The main issues with AH are twofold:
#1 giant broadcast. You know what’s happening when Ashen Hallow drops.
#2 interruptible, nothing like your entire combo being halted by one ability.
