I fell behind because of school and want tl level faster. What is the best method(s)?

Killing things and then being given XP for killing things.
Edit: Silliness aside, You can start hitting/grinding Scarlet Monestary Graveyard, hopefully you’re picking up the quests from there.
Gnomer is a good one too, you’ll be on par lv range by the time you get to the end. Pick up quests for there too.
I’m not familiar with some of the Horde specific zone quests, so you’ll need someone with that to hit you up.

Just join spellcleave groups since you’re a mage and farm SM
If you are on a pvp server, do NOT go to STV. Level in Desolace / SM.

Should try to aoe farm when you can it’s the best xp there is to offer. Once you hit a certain benchmark spam zul nonstop until your eyes want to bleed
AoE farm SM instances. 1Priest +4mages or 1Priest + 3mages and 1Lock. At 36 do SM Cath until 42/43. Quest a bit until 44/46 and start the AoE zombie farm in ZF until 52. 52 to 58/60 AoE in BRD with 1Priest +3Mage+Tank. If you don’t get bored to death doing this, and can find reliable groups, you’ll level very fast.

Seek out Dorn Plainstalker in Thousand Needles and get the quest Test of Faith, which will start a long chain (it will catch up to your level soon) that will run you all over Azeroth and explain a bunch of history/lore.

Avoid Stranglethorn Vietnam. If you like questing, you may be SoL though regarding the PvP. Dungeons are your only sure fire way to avoid the gankfest.
35-42 SM Cath
42-44 quest (good luck in populated zones lol)
44-52 ZF
52-60 BRD

Then I stopped using it around level 52, because I wanted to play around the Plaguelands since Halloween is coming up, and it seems nicely related. 
You’re playing Horde so do what all other 30-somethings do and spam SM until your eyes bleed.
Grind humanoids in Desolace during off-hours. That region is insanely boring and nobody is there because they like it; they’re there because they want to solo and they’re avoiding Stranglethorn Vietnam. The centaurs drop silk and have decent loot tables for that level. I like the Magram camp in the southeast and the orc encampment in the northwest.
During peak hours, SM runs.

it takes forever to level or quest when you’re constantly getting into fights.

I like that though. I’ve been leveling in Hillsbrad (outside Tarren Mill) and yeah, I did die some, but I also killed more than my fair share.
The whole fight is the reason I rolled on a PvP server and I love it lol

I agree with this except I’d hit ST at 52 before BRD. BRD is a little much for a 52 and I highly doubt you’d get invited for it. I know the range says to start at 54 but you won’t go too far like that.
I agree here, but with guildies you could get into a run. I do love me a good ST though. I leveled my main 52-54 in ST. Would’ve preferred BRD though, so many quests to get over the level hump and just grind it lol.
the problem with STV isn’t that there’s pvp, it’s that people get their mount and then immediately go to STV to gank, or gank STV at 60. People don’t go out of their way to gank Desolace. My experience was that the pvp was much better in Desolace because there was much more equal-level pvp; STV was just getting corpse-camped by lvl 60s.
I like STV in the off-hours though. The beasts drop good vendor loot, there are a lot of quests, and it’s a really cool-looking zone with a lot of variety.

Many do, but many don’t when they’re trying to level and repeatedly getting corpse camped. I avoid STV on PvP servers altogether until cap. The allure of STV is those big battles that start with a simple gank on PvP servers, IMO
It’s probably my favorite zone, now that I really think about it. Especially when ZG comes out - which is a favorite dungeon as well.
I just think the developers put a lot of thought into the zone as it’s both horde and alliance and a center of mischief.
Imo.
