So most Legion questing content was tied to class halls. This obviously presents problems for a Dracthyr Evoker for completing those achievements. While they cannot level in Legion content as they start at a higher level, IMO they shouldn’t be locked out of completing those achievements, so a solution needs to be worked out. As I see it, these are the options:
They add a full class hall and campaign for Evokers. While this would be awesome in theory, it doesn’t work lore-wise and would be a titanic effort for minimal gain. This option seems unlikely.
Have them select which class hall to work for. They could play through their chosen order hall’s campaign. It would be dicey lore-wise, but no more so than them doing the content in the first place. Plus, it would be relatively simple to add in a few breadcrumb quests.
Pick a class that most closely matches the Evoker and simply assign them to that order hall and class campaign. In my opinion the closest match is the shaman, but I could see mage as well.
Split the difference between 2 and 3 and give them a restricted selection of class halls.
Ignore the issue entirely, do nothing, and lock Evokers out of virtually all of Legion questing. While undesirable, it’s more likely than I’d like. Certainly more likely than 1.
My bet is that it won’t even be a Chromie timeline option for them. Actually come to think of it, Chromie timelines won’t be an option at all. Remember that Evokers are going to be handled the same way as the original Death Knights and Demon Hunters, they’ll start at high level and go straight into Dragonflight content.
Yes, but I’m talking about if they go back to do the content anyway. You don’t have to enter Chromie Time to do old quests, and you can still get all Loremaster achievements if the content is trivial.
They will probably not get the prompts to start the class hall quest lines. there really is no lore foundation for suddenly seeing a Class Order for them. They’ll probably be able to do the non-class quests with no issues. They will just blitz through them but the post order quest lines
There definitely will not be artifact weapons and a campaign for them. That’s just not even on the table. With those disregarded, the only thing the class hall is necessary for is choosing which zones to level in and unlocking Broken Shore.
If I were a dev, I’d make a class-neutral class hall that not only Evokers but any possible future classes would go to for the needed mechanics.
So, this is the Story forum, not General Discussion where I feel a thread like this is more suitable. I expect Blizzard moderators will move it when they spot it. That said:
I think eventually Blizzard should add a class hall for them and some artifact weapons.
Reason being is that there are actual achievements tied to the class hall, which if you’re playing an Evoker (and decide that is going to be your main) you won’t be able to get said achievements, because your class just doesn’t have that option.
Also it means you’re effectively locked out of some story content in the form of the Balance of Power quest chain, which really, is never a good thing.
Legion itself needs to be reworked as it is for several reasons:
The treasure chests do not give a decent amount of XP and that needs to be buffed.
Artifacts are really not much better than heirloom weapons now (in fact, they’re worse, since they don’t scale without relics, which are now neutered). IMO if Blizzard isn’t going to do anything with them by making them evergreen and a form of horizonal progression, then they should have them scale just like heirlooms and remove relics from the game. No more relics as quest rewards or drops from dungeon/raid bosses.
The Legion invasions still have daily quests that require multiple people to clear, and the final invasion scenario requires multiple people, but depending on your server you might be the only person clearing the daily and that means those group quests won’t be completable unless you drag a friend over. As for the scenario? You’ll be in queue forever for that in most cases, because no one is queuing for them these days. So both the group quests and the scenario need to be changed to be completely soloable.
So when/if they do that, then they should take the time to add a Evoker class hall and artifact weapons. Lore wise they could justify it by having the Class Hall technically be on the Dragon Isles, and they’re going back in time to help defeat the Legion because the Infinite Dragonflight are trying to mess up the timeline, unbeknownst to the rest of the factions and class orders. The artifacts they get can even be dragon themed, relics that the Infinite Dragonfight malipulated the Legion into going after so they could eventually take them for themselves.
Virtually anyone who’s running an Evoker has already had their ride through Legion.
Anyone who runs a Dragonflight character to Legion will outlevel the place like crazy.
Blizzard never has the resources to finish out their current expansion content as there will always be stuff that doesn’t get done. This only gets worse if they divert themselves to revive an Expansion three chapters back just fo fix one race/class combo that was never meant for that story.
I don’t want to see Dragonflight shortred out just to fix one niche race/class that was never meant to run Legion, whose story lore has them completely asleep through out that chapter, so they don’t even have a lore reason to be there.
The other thing is that Legion as it is is broken, no one who tries to start the Legion campaign now can finish it because you can’t quee for dungeons there. so if you didn’;t run Legion when the expac was live, you’re SOL until you can solo them… It would take considerable effort coding wise to fix it, effort that simply is not available.
Blizzard literally just got a new team of over 100 developers to work on World of Warcraft specifically. There’s more reinvestment happening in World of Warcraft and it’s showing in how the Dragonflight Alpha is shaping up so far.
I’m not saying a Legion rework should happen in Dragonflight, but it does need to happen, along with revamps to Outland and Northrend (while keeping the old storylines and content available via Chromie Time).
‘ideally’ sure but I can’t think of much I would put much lower priority than ‘new hero class gets content for an old expansion that was all about classes’
Leveling is so fast and easy and achievements mostly account-wide, that seems like a really easy example of saying ‘that is too big of scope for too little benefit’.
It was all about classes that were existing then in Lore.
The Dracthyr/Evoker are not the same kind of class. The analogy that comes close is what D&D supplements used to call monster classes. That instead of taking levels in the conventional classes you were taking levels in certain sentient monsters from dragons to Astral Devas
The Dracthyr is essentially a Monster class as opposed to a standard Adventuring Class or a Hero Class.
…uh, I agree with you as far as ‘classes that were existing then’. that’s why i said i couldn’t imagine much that would be lower priority
though i’m not sure that it’s a ‘monster class’ matters much – that honestly would probably help make an argument for it. The evokers already have a coherent organization, which is more than can be said for a good chunk of the classes in Legion (most prominently priests, since nothing really unites Shadow and Holy priests conceptually – but tauren paladins, rogues in general, warriors in general, hunters in general, troll druids, and a few others can levy similar notes)
