So are taxes just that impossibly high? Or how did the Wrynn dynasty made it happen that all their normal soldiers are clad in full plate armor? Make it make sense please. The amount of wealth for such an expensive army must be astronomical.
I’d place this in the category of ‘Blizzard hardly thinks of the logistics of their world.’
The mines in Elywnn are overrun or near empty, sure aint getting much ore out of Westfall, Redridge might have some hope but thats been volatile so safe to assume domestic production is pretty low.
Probably get a lot of resources from Ironforge since the Dwarves seem like the only competent people in this world when they’re not squabbling with each other or trying to summon the fire lord. What that trade looks like is anyone’s guess, but I assume a lot of food stuffs for ore is the usual given how little the dwarves and produce themselves given the climate or environments they generally live in.
It’s a very common fantasy trope to wildly overstate the prevalence of full plate armor. It shouldn’t be taken too seriously - especially not when measured against Orgrimmar, which doesn’t armor their soldiers to the same standard but does appear to construct buildings with steel frames as thick as trees.
I am surprised the common grunt in Orgrimmar still looks like a loincloth wearing barbarian. Especially when Mag’har NPCs already upgraded their appearence twice in a row.
One thing I def enjoyed about Classic-Wrath, you started off with lesser/cheaper armor as a low level and had to earn your better gear, mail to plate or leather to mail. It wasn’t a lot to showcase it all, but was at least something.
→ Benefit from a leadership position among Human nations because your regional rivals have been all but reduced to ashes by one planetary threat or another
→ Have your finest masons rebuild your entire city-state, don’t pay them in the end
→ Take the head of arguably the most powerful coalition on the planet, giving you access to a bunch of formidable military allies and trade partners while maintaining a feodal system that keeps the rich rich and the poor poor
Good job you’re a wealthy superpower
Even Ironforge riflemen have more diversity in their weapons and gear.
Stormwind is close to Ironforge. Trading goods that the Dwarves have difficulty making themselves (such as many types of food that would be hard to grow in high elevations) for armor that the average Dwarf smith could make in their sleep seems like an easy arrangement to make. Combine that with a navy that while not on the same level of Kul Tiras is still good sized and able to act as an intermediary with Ironforge Stormwind is in a very good position to be an economic powerhouse.
you seem to understimate how expensive this armor is. There is a reason only knights used to have it.
Two important points:
- Armor could vary in expense depending on the region for knights with good war horses often being more expensive than the armor to obtain and maintain.
- Knights didn’t have access to an entire city full of smiths and artisans who could mass produce armor and weapons.
I feel like you greatly overestimate how expensive mass produced early modern era plate armour was. Stormwind isn’t a medieval kingdom and even if it was one forth of its capital is populated by the very industrious dwarves, whose own capital is just one train ride away.
You can’t convince me that Ironforge has endless iron ore.
Why would they need an endless supply of iron ore when several stable sources from around Dun Modra and Stormwind’s territories would easily suffice? Using the heat of Ironforge’s great forge eliminates the need for fuel. And even if the mountain city doesn’t have a large supply of iron (which would surprise me given the name of the city) it wouldn’t need to be the only location to get iron from. Not mention the many more exotic metals that could be used for truly high-end weapons and armor.
This is entirely unrelated to whether or not Stormwind can and how it affords to field armies clad in plate armour. The answer to if they can do it is simply yes, we can plainy see that this is the case. The answer as to how is also yes; because mass produced plate armour is cheap to make. It is called munition armour which, unlike the armour of the Medieval period that you mentioned, is not tailor made to fit one wearer. It’s made in bulk and simply handed out to soldiers as required.
As for the quantity of ore available to Ironforge, the lore does state Dun Morogh gives the dwarves access to a near limitless supply of ore.
After Blackfuse technology became widespread I am still confused why Orcs only have shoulder pads and an axe.
Why wouldn’t they? Blackfuse Company specialised in making siege weapons.
Because they are the only ones. Any civilization can not just stop at cavemen development. I want the Orcs to look cool and not stupid and goofy.
Don’t pay your stonemasons and pocket the profit. Maybe.
Stormwind is possibly the goofiest looking capital city in the game second only to Silvermoon. I’ll plant my butt in Orgrimmar over those two any day.
They are not.
