Hey, folks. I’ve been away a minute, but I’m back at it and having fun.
I decided to spend a day bumbling around and picking up pets I didn’t have. My usual MO is to start a battle, check for rare pets, forfeit if there are none, kill the pet to force a respawn, and move on.
So far I’ve started 16 pet battles, so 48 pets spawned, without seeing a rare. My memory was that I’d usually see a rare 1 in 5 or so.
I’m in BfA for context.
Now I’m aware of variance, gambler’s fallacy, yadda yadda yadda.
But I figured I’d check and see if rare battle pets are just a 1% spawn rate at this point and if I’m just wasting my time.
Thanks.

Welcome back!
I don’t have numbers, and I don’t know of any - though I’d be interested to hear.
But Blue Stones are soooo cheap (15 Charms) and plentiful (lotsa WQ) now that I stopped caring about Rarity at capture years ago. I choose for Breed over Rarity, and requiring both my preferred Breed and Blue quality is waaay too much work these days.

I’m all for people “playing how they want” … but I can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone would do all this extra work for “rare” pets, when it takes 1/1000th the effort to rack up a lifetime’s supply of Rare-stones.
Like, that was the entire point of the item: to let people focus on just pet battling/collecting. When you get the one you want, throw a stone at it.
It’s also why I only level pets to 23. The last two levels, I just use the specific breed-stones. I have a stack of 70+ of each breed just from doing dailies, there’s no reason to fight that last chunk of xp to 25. Just use stones.

Generally you do want to cook it enough to sear the outer surface so its not raw on the outside and not cold inside, but still uncooked, juicy, and red int he middle.
