This is a good point. The filter should always just be on.
Ya, they make a rule, they implement a technology making it impossible to break the rule, then they allow you to turn it off, so you can break the rule.
But not really, itâs so you can report people for breaking the rule.
Ever tried being a parent in RP? I have to walk through SW with earplugs in the infantâs ears because literally everyone is either speaking about Goldshire things or swearing like a sailor⊠mostly cause the edgy types escaped the Slaughtered Lamb.
The general consensus of folks seems to be that they donât think anybody 18 or younger plays the game, or if they do, theyâd rather not have them around them. Probably for the best.
I forgot about Goldshire lol.
Yeah, lots of âvulgarâ things going on in RP Goldshires, and no one seems to get in trouble. In fact, it just became a meme instead.
More, for some people ERP is a business plan on how to make a ton of goldâŠ
Its called personal responsibility. You shouldnât need a filter to not use profanity.
I havenât reported a single person, nor do i have any on ignore. But i have reported a couple obvious bots.
I only do so if it says [WTS] in LFGâŠ
Or itâs your personal responsibility to turn on the filter if you donât want to hear profanity.
One of those is actually a personal responsibility, the other is trying to control people.
Iâll repeat.
Seems every generation has their self appointed morality police.
In the 80âs-90âs it was the religious right with their assertion that games were filled with âsatanistâ, what ever that is.
In the 90âs itâs changed to a more PC based morality and now they are the morality police with their assertions that games are filled with âToxicityâ, what ever that is.
I think the meaning of the clear and direct words they write matter more than your made up implications. But you know, feel free to test it. Swear in game and see what happens.
When it is already against the rules to not use profanity that is on the person, not the receiver.
So yes, it is your responsibility to watch what words you use. The filter is there because of people who refuse to follow those rules and so that those who dislike seeing those rule broken.
It is not permission to break ToS or any other in game conduct agreement you agreed to.
This isnât some morality crusade, its respecting the in game rules and expected conduct.
Like I said, that thatâs their policy isnât in contention.
History is filled with lots of clearly stated policies with very direct words. A lot of them werenât fair or just.
The person using the filter isnât the one breaking or not breaking the rules. The person typing the message is. You can still report someone even if you have the filter turned on.
Right. But this one is. Just donât swear in game. Itâs real easy.
Sure thing.
This is a video game with rules. You can twist this into something it isnât but the simple answer is, follow the rules you agreed to prior to playing.
Simple as. Nothing deep here.
Which makes this even more silly.
That there is anything that anyone would report players for other than outright cheating and exploiting isâŠ
Well IMHO it says more about the reporter than the reported.
Never, people can do and say whatever they want to me.
Youâre not going to get suspended for reporting people lol, donât be ridiculous.
Now I know you must be trolling. People get suspended for profanity on a regular basis. Just take a peek through the CS forums if youâre curious. Blizzardâs stance has, since day 1, been that the filter isnât an excuse and you will still be actioned if you use profanity and someone reports you for it.
Except you will if you falsely report too often.
No, you really wonât.
Yes, you really will.
