I love Sub. I miss Sub. Legion Sub was okay because of Goremaw’s Bite. MoP sub was the most fun for me. I think Wrath Sub would have to be my second favorite, followed by Cata.
I don’t like BfA Sub - because I’m punished for playing it. It kills my incentive to log into wow. I maybe get on once a week for a couple hours at most right now. I’m curious as to how many other Sub rogues out there are in the same boat?
I cant blame this on sub but wow in general. Assassination and outlaw (really grappling hook) are the only things that make me want to log in at all anymore in the game. Once every week or so to smash out a bunch of lower keys and 0s and keep my neck up.
Although the game in general has shifted so far to ilvl progression being the only thing that anyone cares about that I struggle to find a group of players to play with who like being challenged.
Being declined for everything unless I dang near outgear it kind of kills the game for me.
Warforged and 4 separate difficuktu raid levels and 30+ possible 5 man difficulties is ultimately what drives me away.
Work doesnt afford me to be really picky about guilds and guilds on the days I actually can do content on dont allow me to be challenged by said content. (When I was playing this toon exclusively to even get into a heroic uldir guild was impossible at 365 because ilvl was too low). Being afforded the ability to ignore mechanics and just strong arm progress is what kills the game.
However back on topic… yeah sub is in an unfortunate spot. It still suffers from pvp vs pve tear. If it can cc you forever and can burst down your healer in the first 2 CC abilities its op in pvp… if it becomes only a cc bot it becomes garbage in everything.
Give up cheap shot and your shadowdance would be allowed to deal damage. But you wouldnt ve allowed to hold them down. But you wouldnt be useless in 99% of the game outside of being a cc bot in pvp…
Its a disgusting balance they have to ride. Being a control machine while being able to deal tons o damage isnt in the cards. The Jack’s of all trades specs are in such good positions because there isnt anything they are great at. So doing 80% of everything is >>> than doing 100% of 1 thing and 50% of another.
Blizzard has been punishing specs jn the name of homogenization since wrath when they first removed the “hybrid tax”. My favorite spec of all time has suffered since then. Poor shadow went from being a mana battery that had a reason to be at everything to being a weak multidot spec with no real offheals and single target or utility left. Sure it has its moments to shine (a few fights now) but like sub, it gets a rework and overhaul every 2 patches and only gets the spotlight in the encounters and areas of the game that blizzard specifically designs around making it look good. cough zul cough
At least blizzard fired everyone who used to collect info and our gripes about the games and is going to replace them with a massive mobile money grab dev force.
I’m limited on time (work/family) but I try to play some every day.
Up until a month a ago I was keeping this Subtlety Rogue and an Alliance Sub Rogue geared the best I could. I didn’t have the time to play both so I’m just playing this guy.
Sub can only spam cheap shot for so long before everyone is on full DR for it. I feel that Outlaw, and Sin actually have better control vs Sub. Outlaw has a ranged stun, that is INSANE actually. Especially for starting CC chains in arena. Gouge as well. Blind. Constant slow from PS. It has a lot more versatile control vs Sub. Perhaps not as spammable as Sub, but more versatile.
Sin I feel… has the best control. Cheap, Kidney, Garrote, Blind. The silence from Garrote is great. Of course you have to use vanish, or hope to get a restealth to get that silence, but when you’re having a good chain going, the vanish Garrote can land you more kills than not, because of that silence. Sure they can move, but they can’t do anything.
Sub is mostly cheap shot spam, blind, and shadowy duel - which aoe affects go through it - to control the enemy. Sure the cheap shot spam can be annoying, but if it’s not being combo’d with anything like cyclone, sheep, repentance, you can only get a few off before they’re full DR.
I feel the best way to truly handle sub is to just roll it back. Give it the 1 charge dance with a 1 minute cd again. Give us a burst window every minute, like most classes have.
You’re right though. I don’t expect any sort of change for the good now that Blizzard has gutted their community department.
With college and work I still try to log on a couple times a week. Sub is just depressing atm and in dire need of changes the only fun part about sub is that it is a highlight reel spec that when played to its full potential can allow for some awesome plays in wpvp and arena
This. 1 minute dance and vanish with 2 charges (or prep back for sub). Move our damage back into Sdance/vanish/open windows.
Rogues shouldn’t have in-your-face PvE damage like current Assassination is. It should be about burst windows, cc, and resets.
Also, bringing back Garrote silence, gouge, and poisons would be nice…
I haven’t played sub since cata. The thing I struggle with the most is that I feel like I am punished for taking breaks in the game. The last time I played my rogue pre-BFA was in cataclysm and I had to relearn my class all over again. Its really disheartening when you love the class you play only to come back and be told you have a new class (new abilities, new spec, old abilities gone).
I log on my sub once a week for nostalgia.
