How not to kill pet during taming?

So, I boosted my hunter and I like grabbing spirit beasts. At level 110, even if I get naked, I can’t seem to do little enough damage to partially damage the spirit porcupines in MoP. Is there a method to lowering my damage to make taming a possibility. FFW, I am not a fan of end content WoW, so I do not mind stepping back to grab pets, gear, and such.

Try using the foam sword toy. The “mortally wound an enemy of trivial difficulty” one.

The fruit throwing toy gets aggro but does no damage. That’s all else I have.

If you out level them by a lot, you should be able to tame without damaging the beast.

Fly up high.
Fall and die.
Rez sickness.
No weapon, just punch.

A few weeks ago I went and tamed a pet from LK on my BM hunter. I didn’t damage it at all. I just targeted it, cast /tame beast, and a few seconds later had a new pet. Why are you attacking it? You shouldn’t have to.

The porcupines in MoP were challenge tames. You have to damage them to, what, 30% to tame them?

Foam Sword toy doesn’t affect them (tried on my Hunter). You just need to die and take rez sickness and maybe remove some gear. I don’t know how much you hit for at 120 and rez sickness but I think it might still be a fair amount.

make sure you have no trinkets, rings, or anything at all.

I had to go completely naked. Rez sickness, completely naked, punch it twice.

This - Soft Foam Sword.
Obtainable from the toy vendors that walk along the canal in SW and the Drag in Org, it can be manually fired to reduce a mobs health to 1% without killing it.

I removed all gear and weapons, flew into the air, released and died. Took the 40-50 sec rez sickness and flew back to the beast. A couple hits with fists, got them down to 10 percent, then tamed… Easy peasy.

I know this is an old post.
But you can use Tranq Shot that does no damage and you don’t need to have a range weapon equipt.

or frost trap them, whereby they are immune to damage while you tame them?

Get some lowbie engineering bombs or something that do a fixed amount of damage.

Try using the Whole body shrinker toy with no gear and rez sickness should get the job done

How would you reduce the health on elites or bosses that need to have their health lowered to tame?
