Or will they only make it for just undermine and not gamewide
But in the end this is a debate thread.
Itâs a vehicle mechanic. Those arenât popular. Donât think itâll go past undermine.
I have my doubts since it was something they only have being able to summon while in Undermine. Itâs not a vehicle we have in our collection.
I think at least for now, itâs Undermine only. They might develop something for ground mounts in the future though.
The drive system hasnât been anywhere near as popular as dynamic flight was back in DF. I highly doubt this system will somehow get integrated into ground mounts.
Remember, the drive mount is not actually a mount.
I hope they make it available worldwide. Ground races across zones could be fun. Not to mention Iâm a roleplayer, so having a car that my characters can drive around in (and Blizzard would be able to create new cosmetics for) would be fantastic.
Most likely, DRIVE while fun, hardly fits with like 99% of the mounts of the game, only really working with bikes.
But it might serve as a ground up for something in the future, probably giving some sort of speed boost for ground mounts, maybe a super jump, etc.
Itâs a bit too early to make that claim. Also, given that itâs only available in one zone, which is Undermine, and most players are not in that zone, that alone can skew perceptions. Everyone Iâve spoken to, save for those who cannot handle the new system thanks to issues with motion sickness for example, has had nothing but good things to say about the DRIVE system.
Itâs a vehicle gimmick for Undermine, and Undermine only. Blizzard said they chose this for Undermine because itâs thematic. The goblin starting zone had the hot rods, now theyâre spruced up.
It lives and dies with Undermine.
Yeah, but it shouldnât. Again, I thought we all agreed that creating new systems that were only for one expansion was a bad thing. Itâs why we insisted that dragonriding be made evergreen. Itâs why we rejected things like garrisons, class halls, warfronts, island expeditions, and covenants. Because getting a new thing and then never being able to use that thing again unless you go to those zones where that thing is relevant stinks.
Blizzard has a good system here. It would not require a lot of work to turn the DRIVE car into a proper mount that can be used everywhere. It would enable them to add even more content to the world in the form of ground races and cosmetics for the car so it can be customized, like the dragon mounts from Dragonflight or the Delve mounts from this expansion.
But if you donât express interest in it, Blizzard isnât going to do anything more with it. It actually will die with Undermine, because instead of making it clear that this is something Blizzard should expand and work on, youâve already cosigned it to the scrapheap.
Make up your minds, people, because we argued really hard against temporary systems and borrowed power that disappears after an expansion to the point where Blizzard said, âOkay, weâre listening; you guys donât want borrowed power systems, and you want more evergreen content.â And now theyâre falling back into bad habits, and you are just letting it happen with zero resistance.
I do think it is a test for dynamic ground mounts. Itâs probably a first draft of sorts.
Itâs almost as if thereâs millions of players, each one with their own opinion.
Truly revolutionary, I know. But keep up.
Oh Iâm not suggesting they just port DRIVE into existing vehicles, but most likely have a system for ground mounts like Guild Wars 2. Which would be more like dragon riding (that they also took from Guild Wars 2) than it would be some vehicle ui thing that vehicle type quests have always used.
Rally race from booty bay to Silvermoon! More customization would be cool and seeing folks grounded, if even moving fast, would be cool.
Yeah like WoWs version of the agW roller beetle. Have DRIVE races strewn about old world.
Lol how cool would it be to make a race track wit the background like the one boss fight in Nighthold with the cosmos as the background. They could call itâŚStar RoadâŚ
I doubt that too - drifting with legged mounts would be weird.
However I can foresee them creating a new type of ground mount that can use the DRIVE system - existing mounts wonât be affected.
Blizzard seem to have spend quite a bit of money on this thing marketing-wise.
I want Drive out in the world. Ground mounts need something. Iâd also like my trike to get that new model as well and use Drive.
I think it will show up again as races and some dedicated world quests, but I donât think it is going to become widespread like dynamic flight is.
Honestly, I wouldnât mind a heavily stripped down version of drive for all ground mounts. The current iteration is far too physics heavy. Also we need a ground version of the aerial halt ability.
Most likely possible system to deploy is this, a very much similar system comparable to skyridingâs system.
âBreakneck gearboxâ could be named this, operating like the skyriding system: low gear for normal current mount speed or high gear breakneck speeds. This is only applicable to wheeled vehicles at first, but more certain mounts could in theory be enabled to handle this.
Feels to me like too much work was put into D.R.I.V.E for it to be relagated to a single patch. While its current form may not seem to translate as well to many ground mounts as Dragonriding to most flying mounts, I donât think several of its core features, the higher movement speeds and boost especially, would take much to adapt to be more universally applicable. Even the drifting, I think, could possibly be adjusted to look more palatable for non-mechanical mounts. Granted, I suppose it all depends on how committed the devs are to the idea.
Iâm not holding my breath either way. Iâd love for this system to expand beyond Undermine but I know better than to get my hopes up.
I can see it staying in Undermine, since the way it itâs setup now isnât really suitable for non-vehicle mounts. Wouldnât surprise me if it was a way for them to test how people deal with moving that fast on ground mounts in preparation for some sort of evergreen dynamic system for those.
