How Much Honor

Do I need to grind to stay where I am? Last week I had 38,000 honor that put me 3% into Rank 4. Do I need 3,800 honor? 7,600 honor? I know honor decay jumps up to 20%, but not when, and I’m not sure if it’s 20% of last week’s honor or 20% of some other amount.

Also, any links to a good, in depth, explanation of how the honor system works would be appreciated. I’ve read the Wowhead article and have picked up quite a bit more info reading comments here, but I really don’t understand how brackets (and a bunch of other stuff works.)

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

it will never make sense. just download honorspy addon and hope it accurate.

Honor Spy won’t answer my question about honor decay.

Honor decay is 20% of your total rank points

Honor does not equal rank points.
You get rank points based on the honor you earned compared to the rest of your server. There are 14 brackets to be placed in.

At rank 4 you’ll have between 10000 and 15000 Rank points (RP).
Your decay will be 2000-3000 RP. So if you landed in bracket 11 for example you’d get 9000-9999 RP for the end of the week. So you’d get anywhere from 6000-7999. Which would increase your rank by 1 or 2 depending on what your exact RP is.

Brackets as follows
14 12000-13000 RP
13 11000-11999 RP
12 10000-10999 RP
11 9000-9999 RP
etc (almost 1000 per rank until your bottom ranking)

Total decay of rank is 20%. Each week you are allowed of gaining a maximum 13k rank points. Those rank points are calculated by how many people are participating in pvp and where you fall in between those brackets.

Okay, so Wowhead calls them Contribution Points, I think, and at rank 4 there’s 10,000 CP, so I need 2,000 CP to avoid downranking, so approximately 5 x 2,000, or 10,000 honor points. Or am I entirely wrong?

Im pretty sure decay is 10% up to rank 7. R7 and beyond is 20%.
I have no idea what its like for alliance but i know when i was rank 4, i jumped up 8% of a rank by getting about 80k honor.
Its hard to say what you need roughly for each rank to stay where you are, as it can differ week to week. Im just watching what honor spy tells me lol.

The amount of honor is completely irrelevant, you just need to farm enough honor to end the week in a bracket that awards more rank points than your 20% decay, at low ranks thats pretty easy with minimal play

Alright, but that doesn’t answer my question.

You know of any websites with a better explanation of brackets than Wowheads?

There is no definitive answer, the amount of honor you need to farm is entirely dependent on how much honor everyone else on your server is farming

Other than using unreliable addons, how do you determine your bracket?

You don’t.
You have to know what every person on your server is farming for honor each week in order to estimate the bracket you’ll fall in.

There used to be a website back in vanilla that displayed rank but it’s long gone now.

If you have honorspy, scroll to bracket 4, that will tell the gist of how much honor you will need to stay within that bracket.

I wouldnt worry much about it, the calculations of standings vary per week. and each lower bracket holds a ton more people. The best option i can give you is stated above.

Honor Spy is less than reliable. It had me as high as bracket 8 last week.

Honor spy is probably 95% accurate.

It has yet to come anywhere close for me.

Make sure you have the latest version. It’s more accurate the longer you’re on and the more clients it communicates with.

Yes, thank you.

It’s not exact, and it doesn’t track people who don’t use it. It’s more of a gauge then anything, as there really isn’t a true function to calculate where you stand, it’s all relative as to who is competing on your server.
