I solo que and lose every AV going on 5 weeks without a win now! I have managed to squeak out about 125,000 honor a week and have made Rank 8.
I however am wondering if I can realistically hit rank 10, rank 9 comes with nothing but a new banner. How much honor is needed on average to compete for Rank 9 Rank 10?
I had to pvp everyday, all week long doing nothing else just to get 125,000, can I still move ahead doing this or is any further push not feasible?

The short answer is “it depends.”
Long answer is that Honor doesn’t directly earn you anything. At the end blizzard-week the system ranks everyone from most honor earned to least and gives them a standing number and sorts them into brackets. The higher brackets award more Rank Points and are filled with the people who got the highest standing. Each rank requires some amount of rank points to progress through after a 20% decay.
So, it depends on your standing. How big your brackets are, which bracket you’re in etc.

It depends on your server, how many people get 15+ HKs per week (HonorSpy can tell you this or find out what the lowest standing you see in Ironforge/SW is)? And what’s your standing with 125k honor (i.e. what was your standing number last week).
A rough rule of thumb is that for a server faction with 2000 players ranking each week (i.e. getting 15+ HKs and a standing #), that you need to be in the top 120 to keep moving up and reach rank 10.
Even then by the final 2 weeks of your grind, you should try to push to top 60-80 to overcome honor decay and really push into rank 10 easily. But this only applies if there’s around 2000 rankers on your faction.
If you’re struggling to get just over 100k honor a week, especially as alliance with instant queues, it is very unlikely you will ever reach rank 10, unless you’re on a completely dead server.
There are people who farm more honor than that daily

I really do feel like some of this is grossly exaggerated. Five weeks without a win? Any time I play I have plenty of losses outside of premade games - I have plenty of wins as well. It went both ways.
Unless you’re doing like 1 game a day, for 5 weeks, I really doubt this is possible. Much like the 115 in a row loss thread.

Started PvP two weeks ago, I actually cheese farm HK in AV by doing a charge>piercing>ww combo early on. Anyway 1 win in 2+ weeks, 4500 hks, last week was 130k honor with only doing bg’s 2 hours a night. The one win was the last week of premades, I was being rez-killed at SHGY when suddenly the match was over and we won.

I’ve seen 2 ally wins in AV over 2 weeks. They’ve been few and far between; I don’t envy the alliance right now with what’s going on over there.

I am currently Standing 83
dont think honor, think CP ( rank points)
honor varies too much based on server pvp activity
Wait, I can get just 15 hks and not lose rank??
doubt , but would like some insight on it
No, 15hks to be counted at all. You will always decay 20% of your current rank no matter what.
No, you still face decay of 20% of your rank points. You get minimum standing with 15+ HKs, but it’s literally the bottom rank where you’re getting between 0 and 1000 new rank points. So if you’re losing 8000 rank points as a rank 10 (which is 40,000 rank points), just getting 15 HKs, means you lose nearly 8000 rank points that week if you just get the bare minimum of 15 HKs.
So if somebody at rank 10 just got 15 HKs, they’ll fall to rank 8 halfway to rank 9 the following week.
Just tell me your standing number and how many players are ranking on your server (i.e. who’s the lowest standing number you see).
You will then need to figure out which bracket standing 83 puts you in, and see how many rank-points that awards you. There is no ingame interface to check that though, you will need an addon like HonorSpy.

I am NOT using hyperbole, I have no reason to lie! I have not won an AV in 5 weeks playing daily, and all weekend long.
Okay you’re standing 83, so can you look around and inspect people and see what standings they have?
What is the lowest standing you can find; find somebody with a really low rank and see what kinds of standings they have.
Is there anybody over 1000? Or 1500?
Because your %ile is what matters. If you’re #83 out of 2000, you can easily reach rank 10. But if you’re #83 out of 1000, that’s not good enough.
If there’s 1000 people ranking on your faction, you need to be top 60 to reach rank 10 over time. But for the final weeks you need to aim for top 30-40 to make a big push to rank 10.
Get Honorspy for this, it will tell you how many people are ranking each week. That’s how you can target ranks more easily.

That will help a lot. The “Honor System” is opaque, arcane and archaic. I don’t blame anyone for being confused by it. It turns honor into standing into brackets into rank-points…the last two are never displayed anywhere on the interface.

You got a win thats fantastic, I must be super unlucky, I literally wait outside the Alterac Zone so I can buy AV potions quickly all day queing over and over and over and this will be week 5 without a win.
Look at the bright side, you made it on the Ironforge Drinkin Team!
