Level 40 around 100g (Riding Skill + Mount). Level 60 around 1,000g (Just the Mount)
Training costs more than the mounts. You pay out the nose for training, then mounts are relatively affordable. Without discounts, 100g and 1000g are the totals for basic and epic ground mounts.
It’ll cost you 800g to learn to fly, and 200g to buy a mount.

I assumed because the Thread was asked in the Classic Forums, that the OP meant for Classic alone. Essentially, we’re both “right”. Your information is correct, when it pertains to BC and mine is correct, when pertaining to just Classic.
EDIT: More clarification on Classic Mounts and Training, you’ll have to purchase Riding Training, if you want to ride a Mount that isn’t specific to your Race. For example, as a Human Mage, I trained for Horse Riding at 40 and purchased the Level 40 Mount. But, I had to “train” to ride the Saber Mounts (from Darnassus), when I hit Exalted with Darnassus, so I can ride around on a Level 60 Darnassus Mount.
At Exalted plus Rank 3 is 800g (JUST for the Mount) and approximately 20g for the Training.
