How much do you bring with you?

Curious how much stuff folks bring with them when they server transfer.

I’m likely going to move servers with my main, and probably 2 additional alts. However, I’ll be leaving behind several toons. As a certified altoholic, I fully expect that I’ll work up new toons once I’ve settled on a new home, but trying to sort out what to bring with me is proving to be a challenge. I’ve basically swung between the two extremes on the pendulum - just sell almost everything to max how much gold I bring to stuff as much crap on the toons I’m transferring to help out new toons with their profession grinds etc.

So yeah, if you’ve transferred servers, especially if you’re an altoholic, how did you settle on a decision over how much you brought with you?

There is a cap on how much gold you’re allowed to transfer. I can’t recall what it is at the moment but its not a ton.

I bring as much gold as I can, and everything tradeskill wise from my alts. I did that in preparation on my DK for BfA, and then ended up maining my shaman on the server I transferred off lol  But I did make a pretty penny on the new server

It depends on the character’s level. Most people who want to transfer with more look up AH prices on the new realm and buy things that sell well there.

Realm-to-Realm Limitations

  • Characters can only transfer between realms and accounts in the same region.
  • Certain realms are not eligible transfer destinations.
  • You can’t transfer to a realm where your character list is full.
  • If your character’s name is taken on the destination server, you can change its name after the transfer.
  • The character must be at least level 10. Death Knights must be at least level 60.
  • Starter Edition accounts can’t transfer characters.
  • Active auctions or mail will prevent a transfer.
  • Characters holding WoW Tokens cannot transfer.
  • Characters with caged pets in their inventory cannot transfer.
  • Characters are ineligible for realm-first achievements for the first 60 days after transferring.
  • Raid lockouts transfer with your character.
  • You cannot continue mythic raids started prior to the transfer.
  • Item Restoration cannot restore items deleted, vendored, or disenchanted prior to the transfer.
  • The following gold limits apply to all characters.
Character Level Max. Gold
10-30 300g
31-50 1,000g
51-70 5,000g
71-80 20,000g
81-99 50,000g
100 - 109 250,000g
110+ 1,000,000g

Check price differences on major things between the two servers. Things like BoEs, transmogs, pets, and mounts can have vastly different prices between the servers.

After that I would say mats for getting you set up on the new server like cloth for making bags.

The usuals should apply though, transfer gold cap, heirlooms upgraded, if you have MoP anglers rep then send tokens for the new alts, etc etc.

I leave them with their stuff. Over the past ten years I have transferred most of my Alts. (From my original server and some from Alliance to Horde.)

I now have a level 7 Warlock and 6 Mage Human-side on that old server, and I’ll level them to 10 and transfer them as well. They were made in 2004 and have old stuff on them, so I can’t leave them behind.

Good luck.

In Legion, my guild was having trouble recruiting raiders so we transferred the guild to a larger server which made all the difference, and so, i transferred my Main and most of my alts.

The guild tho’, mostly transferred Mains and rolled new alts, so i was in your boat and can understand professions and such. It’s how you stay afloat in capital and can afford your brutosaur and spider mounts!

Treat each toon as tho’ it’d be the only toon that’ll end up at the destination server - that is, each one should be loaded up with its bags full of items that you’ll want to sell on the other AH!

Go through all your gear and sell / disenchant anything with “You’ve already collected this appearance” (as that’ll appear in your transmog appearances tab) & that needn’t take up a slot in your bags, and instead fill it with items that can be sold.

As Sincubus writes above regarding the costs of things, if you want to take it a step further, check out https://theunderminejournal.com/#us/aerie-peak (but change it for the target server) and compare prices on commodities and buy out items on your server before making the switch, and make bank when you arrive!

** Lastly, if you can make one character on your current server create its own guild, you can then create (and FILL) a guild bank with all SEVEN bank tabs (very easily!) with commodities to be sold (or keepsakes that you want to keep (altho’ void storage works for that?)) and transfer it all at once!

I pack everything I can fit into every bag / bank I can and I hop on the next train off the server, thumb up and pointing off into the sunset.

Moving east coast to west and back i transferred for better play times a few times, took it all with me.

I’m not an auction hawk so i didn’t cap gold.

I’m pretty much a one-man band, so when I server transfer it’s just this guy that goes.

I wouldn’t consolidate your alts if you’re having trouble letting them go. Seems like once or twice a year Blizzard will do a sale on character services. Just ignore them until such a time.

I actually transferred a whole bank guild for my Horde characters. Filled two tabs with just Hexweave bags, another tab with WoD crafting mats in case I needed more so one of them can pick it up quickly without having to farm. I don’t remember how much gold I moved, must have been at least 500,000 gold.

It’s like when an ex-lover asks you to move out the apartment. You leave one item behind so you have an excuse to go visit on a Friday night. I think this is a good policy.
