How much do holy paladins need to cast their 2.5sec boring cast time heals?

Speaking ofc for shadowlands changes.

So one thing I really resent in a healer is needing to stand there and cast a 2.5 second heal. I hate it. I do not play WoW to play FFXIV. If I wanted to stand on a 2.5 second GCD I’d go there.

So how much do holy paladins need to actually flat out cast their heals?

What I see:

  1. Glimmer of light trait means holy shock is now decent, but only 30 second duration does make me a bit anxious.

  2. They can generate 3 holy power pretty quickly and dump that into an instant mega heal. I am actually okay throwing the GCD into this mega heal because it’s mobile and I don’t need to stop and hard cast.

  3. Their avenging crusader 2min cd gives them 20seconds of being a disc priest which I like.

So… how much does a holy paladin need to spam this stupid 2.5 second cast time FFXIV styled heals?

Just so I don’t confuse people: If I wanted to play FFXIV I’d go to that game. I’m here to play WoW where we aren’t standing still for 2.5 seconds. I don’t want to play 2.5 second cast time simulator.

2.5 second heals are more like early WoW than FFXIV.

Firstly lol.
Secondly never. Just spam Light of the Martyr.

Is it a good way to play the class? Lol no.
Is it entirely possible to play the class without any cast times? Sure if you aren’t too concerned about performance and you don’t mind having your other healers having to keep you topped off.

The scary thing is that kids these days think WoW is an ARPG not a MMO and honestly they’re not half wrong.

Pretty much never. Between holy shock and holy word and flash of light giving you holy power for more holy words, why would you ever cast anything else?

Glimmer lasts for 30 seconds right now, nothing changes. I don’t forsee Holy Paladin in SL being much different than it is in 8.3, aside from doing less damage because Holy Shocks damage got nerfed. I don’t even have Holy Light on my bars right now. I’d say with another instant cast giga-heal (WoG) being added Holy Light will become even less useful.

If you aren’t bad at avoiding things you can literally just spam Light of the Martyr instead of casting Holy Light and it will be more effective. Yes, it does damage to yourself, but that’s not an issue 90% of the time. Pretty much the only time I ever stop to cast something is when I get an Infusion proc, even then it’s just bombing a super quick Flash of Light and going back to instant casts while jumping in circles.

I see… so even in mythic +15s and raids they dont devolve to becoming a 2.5 second cast time heal spambot?

Because I love the idea of being an ultra mobile melee healer. I dread cast times. DREAD.

Ever thought of giving Monks a try? Paladins aren’t exactly what one would call “mobile” even without cast times.

Yeah I like monks but a lot of people say mistweaver monk is the worst healer outside of holy priest, holy paladin seems much more wanted/liked.

Sounds like you’d enjoy Resto Druid more than Holy Pally.

Oh yeah I love my resto druid. But I’m worried about struggling for raids, and that it’s tank option is sadly a non-option since guardian druid is highly highly stigmatized in the community.

All indications are that Paladins will be casting a lot of Holy Light in SL. Which sometimes has a haste buff, and sometimes doesn’t.

People meme about it and joke about never casting another spell, but that seems a bit extreme.

The ultra mobile melee healer (in dungeons) is going to be Resto Druid. Lots of instant casts, and a few short casts mixed in with them.
