Don’t let them have the satisfaction. Stay night elf to the end of your days and complain on the forums about story direction like I do.
It definitely was spur of the moment, yeah. They didn’t march to Teldrassil with the intention of burning it until she had her little revelation about hope.
I originally thought/hoped there was going to be a sort of swap. Humans take over Undercity with Night Elves and Worgen moving back into Gilneas.
Undead/horde takeover Darkshore and maybe build up something in the burned out tree.
Of course usually what I think is going to happen doesn’t so…yeah…don’t mind me.
Sylvanas is the most easily triggered world leader in Azeroth. Just taunt her about not being able to break your spirit and she’ll burn down your race.
And we have writers supporting this woman.
THe horde didn’t but she did. The whole war was her trying to send as many souls to the maw as possible as was stated at blizzcon. More people die when you burn a capital down than if you occupy it.
I think their in the Maw, but maybe well rescue them?
But I’m saying they made it clear in the novellas that that’s not why she decided to attack the NEs. They did march up there to occupy and then when Delaryn(or whatever her name is, sorry) taunted her about hope, that’s when she had the idea to burn it.
no only are they supporting her, they’re going to make her a hero. you just wait. the burning happened at the end of legion, so the entire night elf race just collectively went to the maw, and blizzard is going to spin it off like sylvanus needed an army to fight death on that front so she sent as much of her “original people” to the front lines to save the world.
Even if we do get them out somehow, they’ve still been in there being tortured for well on a year by the time we could do something about it. Civilians, children and all, trapped in endless torment. There’s no undoing that kind of psychological damage, short of time travel (which I’m not discounting as a possibility).
Darnasus was always a ghost town in game. Now it can have actual ghosts.
Yeah but that’s not the most recent information. New info > than old when it comes to what’s canon. In Before the storm she had a conversation with herself, alone, in her head talking about how she didn’t want to be warchief. Yet more recently we’ve learned that it was part of her plan along. So now that’s canon and the part of the book is not. Same goes for the Novellas.
I think it’s poor writing and frankly quite ridiculous that they have such a hard time keeping their lore consistent. The frequency of their retcons is confusing and shouldn’t be necessary.
So despite anything that she may have said, or was implied, during the novellas. The canon now is that it was always her intention.
Oh yeah that one place with the giant sword stuck in it.
I forgot that they blew up their island.
Yeah, no, that’s not what I’m going with lol. I’m already sick to death of Blizzard retconning everything. I’m not gonna go along with the theory that she was ackshually going to burn the tree the entire time because that essentially makes the novellas and the entire Teldrassil arc meaningless.
Yeah like i said it’s dumb. I guess just know that what you are arguing (at least as far as her intentions are concerned) is now not the canon. There are definitely parts of the story where i play using my head canon my im in game though. Especially recently there’s been a lot of unnecessary retcons
If that’s actually what she was thinking the entire time, “I’m going to burn this tree down and genocide the night elves for my powah” then they should have avoided giving ANY insight as to what she was thinking in the novellas at all. It would have been totally possible to do that, and now the Maw thing would make sense in hindsight. But they spent much of the Horde novella with her inner thoughts about hope and all that, so it makes absolutely 0 sense.
Yeah I agree. Sylvanas’s inner thoughts from various sources have often been brought up as lore discrepancies this xpac.
Personally i think that blizz didn’t have the finer details for Shadowland’s story mapped out yet and were planning on writing Sylvanas a little differently originally. Then as they fleshed out where they wanted to be more, their original “target” had shifted and created these contradictions.
I used to really like the books for wow but nowadays I hope they stop trying to progress the story through them because recently they cause far more lore issues and inconsistencies than anything else.
They’ve already had to retcon Chronicle. It’s intention from the start was to clarify lore and make it all come together cohesively. Then they retconned it to be authored by the Titans to explain the inconsistencies. But then you have things in the modern history that the Titans should not know so even that becomes in question. Their lore is a mess for sake of rule of cool when they already have plenty of cool stuff to work with.
Don’t worry cause the tree was a living thing it is actually just waiting in Shadowlands to bring it back to the world of the living.
