Just out of curiousity. Seems like this expansion they put considerably less effort into than any previous one before them (in my opinion). Wonder how many years they will put into this game?
They finish the World Soul Saga, then move on to to Renilash (Light vs. Void).
Beyond that, nothing will feel “Warcraft” anymore.
Then again, it’s possible that Renilash will take place within the WWS, making it WoW’s final story.
About three fitty
As long as it stays in the green. We can probably see another 10 years of this game going, easy.
Look at EverQuest. Still putting out annual expansions.
Not sure how you can say that they put less effort in. They massively changed QoL by introducing Warbands for a start. And soon we’ll have housing. Which is not easy to implement.
The game IS very old. So I’d have said that they certainly are running on a timer. But that can be said of everything. If it goes on for another 10 years would that be considered “running out of gas”?
I guess at that point… remake it as WoW 2
Oh please. They did the bare minimum this expansion. In the past they would roll out new features but this time they didn’t even roll out the feature entirely. They’re going to repeat it to us the entire expansion and probably throughout the next one too. We have no idea when we are going to get complete warband, they don’t even have a road map or anything
I don’t really consider that stuff, seems miserable.
At least 20 more years. Easily.
How is it miserable to think about the game that we’re playing?
As long as money
What you’re seeing is some reused stuff, rehashed stuff and old assets they never used but had sitting in the files.
Why? My theory still remains that they once told us we’d have to lose a raid tier or two in order to get player housing. This was their answer instead of losing an entire raid tier.
We’ll see how it looks once housing is better established, probably around Last Titan.
We JUST got player housing, which will be an evergreen system, I give that 3 expansions before it really gets old or considered normative.
Then they’ll REALLY be caught up to every other modern game if they allow less mog restrictions.
So they easily have enough expansion features to improve on to last them 3 expansions or 6 years. Story wise, we need a reboot after we face Denathrius again cause he and the Void Lords are our only real threats left.
Because I enjoy what I have at the time. Spending time wondering how long is left is like focusing on the end. I don’t watch a movie wondering how long is left, I don’t ponder how long my cat had left to live, I hide my fuel meter.
Agreed.
I put too much into it to ever quit, even if the sub reached $100 a month and the game took up 1 terabyte of space. My tombstone will have an engraved pic of me riding Invincible, which will just look like a pic of me floating 2 feet in the air, cause you can’t see the horse, you know, cause its invincible.
We’re a long way from Blizzard calling it quits on this game. They make way too much money off of us.
I have to assume that eventually a whole Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms revamp will happen. And they can create new chatacters, new threats, and plant seeds for the next 20 years. Eventually they will have to bring back old familiar threats like Magatha and the Grimtotem, Twilight’s Hammer, various demon sects like the satyr, the Scarlet Crusade, and so on, back into being relevant threats on Azeroth. I look forward to more “home based” stories someday, instead of cosmological adventures and threats.
Considering games like FF XI (with barely a small fraction of the numbers that WoW has) is still live, WoW’s probably got a lot of life left in it.
I don’t see a practical end in sight TBH.
I do think, in the nearish future, they will introduce an additional paid model where you can access a season earlier than most…a premium subscription model. I can even eventually see this getting as gross as “normal” subscribers are a season behind and that being the true casual vs “tryhardcore”
The fact they haven’t raised the sub in the US is already honestly too amazing to expect to go on for much longer too. I do expect we’re going to see it jump too to 19.99 minimum if not more.
Ten
Four more years for this saga and six more years for one after, which will be based completely on new story material and flop horribly.
Dragonflight
-added skyflying
Warthin
-added delves
Midnight
-adding player housing
Personally, I see them putting in more, not less.
If given the choice, they would probably keep at it forever.
But the reality is sooner than later…
…continuing to support and redo the old tech is going to cost more than it is worth it to
…with evolving AI tech, MMORPGs are going to become cheaper to produce and the market is going to become more diverse, drawing off more customers looking for an actual MMORPG
…they are going to run out of story; this was already seen with dragonfllght
I think that is when people will get their WoW2, only it won’t be called WoW2 or look like a WoW2. It will be a lobby game with increasing difficulty delves, dungeons and raids that are changed up and added to once a year. They will quickly discovered this does not work for raiders, so the raids will be scrapped two years in with an announcement citing their lack of profitability. However it will be very successful when it comes to delves and dungeons.
Now my crystal ball is tired and wants a nap.
As long as they can put out different versions of the brontosaurus and make more money than an expansion release…. I can’t see it ending. Unless they get tired of making money, lol.
