How many versions of the same gear do we really need?

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I started just carrying around one spec for one game mode for character because I couldn’t track all the gear for multiple specs and game modes even with the gear tool and auto sort on bags. I didn’t mind it taking time to gear up and getting 12 pieces a week is to me, overwhelming. I liked when I had to set my eyes on a few upgrades and run those dungeons and maybe get one. Now I’m inundated in loot and I do not enjoy the feeling of having 5 belts for my warrior.

As a returning player im very confused. I liked seeing the loot on every boss. It let me know what to expect from them. Personal loot is not it. I could google it sure but as a returning player i am not sure if i just get random loot or if each boss has a set loot pool. When i could see what dropped in every bosses loot i had an idea what the loot tables were without looking online. And i havent touched mytic yet but it seems to be like the path of exile map system or similar to fractals from guild wars. Both of which i feel were invented simply to offer a different dungeon grind style than the god father that wow is. So it seems silly to see it in wow now.

Id play classic if it wasnt more mucked up than retail. But i wish theyd make the switch back to mop era gear progression. Streamline. Simple and a spread of challenges.

It’s a perfectly uncomplicated system of progression that benefits everybody regardless of the content they enjoy playing. It just needs reforging to become perfect.

Omg, that stupid Friendship Censor trinket, i thought the game kept giving them to me because i was getting rid of them, but even with one epic and one blue one in my bags, the game keeps giving it as WQ rewards, sometimes even 2+ WQ at a time offering the same trinket that i already have 2 of in my bags and multiples that i have already gotten rid of :woman_facepalming:

Absolutely not. It’s a hot mess and proven so.

Simply lying outright doesn’t make a thing so.

You think you do. But you don’t. This system is extremely bad for casuals and only good for the raid or die and M+ crowd. The stuff within the casual track may aswell just drop at 400-424 respectively depending on your current slots ilvl.

And virtually none of it is able to be catalyzed. Getting an explorer version, then an adventurer version, then a veteran version, then champion of all the same gear, it isn’t fun, it’s yet more unesscessary inventory and logistics bloat. Then not being able to make teir out of any of that is also wretched.

You could still get your weekly quest chest hero piece without the system at all.

I absolutely disagree with you. You’re just not familiar with the system enough to understand what the devs actually did to loot. Also BFA had the absolutely best and beautiful approach so far to loot this game ever had. That’s why tons of ppl who didn’t care for the story or raids kept playing it anyway.

DF lacks this momentum. By next patch ppl will be constantly begging for reversion and the game will be a ghost town. Especially the way loot is being handled in raids… an upgraded lfr 224 set of tier gloves blocks you from need rolling on 224 tier set champion gloves from normal that can go to 234.

It’s a total disaster.

Keep the best one if you need it, vendor the others. Just like we did before when getting pieces. How is that difficult?

I take mental health seriously.

Then vendor them. What’s the problem here? We deleted gear before. This isn’t new.

It’s not.

Your opinion isn’t everyone’s and it’s already being implemented next season.

If you can’t have a conversation without devolving into insults, just because you can’t figure out a simple system and have to be dramatic about it, then don’t reply at all.

This is yet another spam thread you problem and not a system problem. Like the third one you’ve made on this subject to be muted.

A lot of ppl agree with me. I don’t know when you started playing but it wasn’t a case of “I have to wear this ilvl 411 adventurer version and keep this ilvl 408 veteran version around in my bags and banks” – conversly champion version eventually… it’s an absolute disaster and you saying I’m dumb because I experienced real stress and anxiety doing this despite my daily meditations on loving kindness towards you… is really mean and short sited.

You’re basically ignoring everything I am saying because you don’t want any improvement or change what so ever to the current messed up system. You don’t want to hear any criticism what so ever. How healthy is that?

“The system is fine and you’re just a sad panda” (I’m paraphrasing you) — isn’t valid criticism lol.

The in game dungeon journal lists the loot table of every dungeon and raid boss.

No need to go online at all.

Thats a nice feature. But yea idk why but i like rolling need or greed and seeing the loot at each boss. I know it changes 0 but idk made it was a little extra excitemnt when you won that roll too

They changed raiding back to need/greed with some protections to prevent ninja looting (i.e., you can’t roll need on items you can’t use). The raid bosses just drop items and people roll.

Dungeons I think they are worried about too many items dropping that the classes involved can’t even use since it’s only 5 man.

My personal opinion is also the dungeon loot tables are too big.

Yea that makes sense. Ill have to poke around the journals and see. I also miss the chit chat in dungeons

I’m not saying what is good/bad for the game, but I do think many people don’t consider or understand the effects or downtime in the older versions of the game and how it facilitates social interactions.

Healers and dps drinking every 1-2 pulls is a lull where conversations can happen organically. Each one the potential to cause another to happen, and so on. Obviously not every run forged a lifelong friendship, but that downtime is where it is seeded.

The modern game has no need to wait for resources so combat (or running) is non-stop. The only time for discussion is before or after and normally after is met with a quick disband.

This extends to RL as well both at work and recreational events. Little pockets of downtime is where casual conversation is seeded.

Anyway, the game is what it is and I still enjoy it.

You don’t need a different set of gear for all of those things. One for PvE, one for PvP for each spec you play. Most of your gear outside of trinkets isn’t even going to change from one activity to the next.

And? Is the mere existence of gear in your bags bothering you?

Play discipline in M+ and Raid. BG-Arena. And openworld warmode. Don’t rely on the 1 single icyvein m+ spec to do all content and get back to me?

One spec and talent build and two gear builds is way two restrictive for discipline. Not to mention the horrific dps in solo content outside of schizm>shadow covenant>expeation>harsh discipline>dark reprimand.

It would be nice to be able to keep all gear in the paper doll instead of the bags and just have gear sets.

I don’t really agree with OP’s overall post, but I def think there are cases where even within PvE it’s a major benefit to have different sets. I can’t speak for all specs, but my Holy Priest comes to mind. For raids we like Mastery/Crit for massive Echo of Light healing. But in M+ we like Haste and Vers to spam Lightweaver procs and put out more damage. It just feels better in each to have a set built around them.

This is what I mained in BFA, holy priest. And in pvp. It was a huge difference.

And crit-haste is absolutely necessary to do passable dps in order to quest as a healer.

Since I have been in warmode a lot lately I also have learned to rely on verse even tho it’s a bit of a dps loss.

Mastery is still pretty great with a healthy use of shields and a build that uses contrition. Which is nice in a lower lvl m+ pug for more relaxed gameplay.

Im not running a complex build outside of a static grp or content I can do with my eyes closed.

----- also off topic a bit. However a mix of rhapsody and shadowcovenat+a dark halo can be really nice in open world big pulls and makes up for our extremely smelly single target as a disc.

Btw holy priest is absolutely the best healer-best kit. Most versatile. I need at least a full break from it for the whole expansion.

Nobody understands this game until they have played a healer for a year straight pushing different content and using different strategies and stats.

World stuff is what I struggle with. I have a good set to use and like, survival isn’t an issue. It’s killing things fast. I need to like… adjust my disc PvP build or something to gear it that direction. But I’m lazy at world content. Even lazier at setting up talents for it. Usually rock my M+ build on my toons.

42 is the answer

That’s the part that confuses me when people claim that we need ten different versions of each piece. Like, I have guildies with champion level gear that they can’t upgrade past 424 because they don’t do 11s or heroic raid. Do people honestly think that these players are going to magically have 447 gear if they were allowed to upgrade it that high? The upgrade currency system already prevents you from easily upgrading your gear until you can reliably complete content in the level range for the next tier of crests anyways.
