Hey all! I have found quite a few scattered forums on this topic of shaman tanks. However none have really picked up steam. So for my curiosity and blizzards id like to know how many player actually want a shaman tank spec. So if you are interested leave a comment and let blizz know why you think shaman tank is a great idea!
Look dead horse let’s beat it. Ever since classic, this topic has been brought up. Many different theory crafters have even left huge long posts on how blizzard could do that. If out of any expansion Dragonflight would have been the expansion that Blizzard could have done that. Yet Blizzard has chosen not to grant this request. Heck, they didn’t even give Envokers tanks and usually, any Hero class includes a tank. So I don’t think Blizzard will ever allow shamans to finally pick up that role of being a tank. Besides we are so gear-dependent that we would need to get the best gear in the game just to be viable tanks to survive a good beatdown and given that survivability has been one of the defining flaws of shamans for a while now. Just my two cents on the matter take it or leave it.
I wish. I don’t think it will ever happen though. For sure the Shaman tier set this season is really making Earth-based Shaman tanks seem really awesome.
I’d love to have four specs as the class that revolves around the four elements. It’s not like Therazane is missing, we have a bunch of Earth spells. All of the former semi-tanking spells from old times were Earth based, so clearly Earth tanking Shaman was an idea someone had at some point.
I also think it would be a good chance to bring two-handed melee Shamans back into the game. A slow powerful weapon would fit an ‘Earth’ based spec perfectly, especially a big ol’ hammer, where as I don’t think it fits a Wind-based speedy spec like Enh nearly as well.
But, as much as I can point out how perfect it would be, I can’t see it ever happening.
Trying to get any type of indication of player’s preferences from a forum post is going to be so far from accurate.
I would absolutely love a tank spec for Shaman.
Saying this, I don’t expect we’ll see one, and I’m certain we’re not entitled to receive it in any way.
If Blizzard wants to, at some point, they will.
With this, I really did not see them expanding to 4 specs, as they’ve stated their preference to keep new classes going forward down to 2 specs, as we’ve seen in DH and Evoker, and I would believe this would extend to the consideration of the expansion for existing specs.
There is also the option for sub-spec, which could be introduced as part of Enh, though again, Blizzard have voiced their opinions of allowing sub-specs in the past.
Replacing Enh altogether with a tank spec is an option for some, though I’m certain this would upset many Shaman players.
Yes must haz tank spek
So which spec we deleting to make room for a tank spec?
Exactly, and while people would be extremely upset for losing Ele for a tank spec, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make
But seriously, that’s the only way Shaman are getting a tank spec (replacing an existing spec) without major shake-ups in how specs are viewed. It’s not going to happen anytime soon, if at all.
Only if its added as a 4th spec, a la Druid.
You dont replace Ele, thats just absurd.
Given that Blizzard has been vocal in keeping the spec numbers on the low side (look at DH and Evoker), if Shaman are wanting a tank spec, be prepared to lose a Ele or Enh for it (as per Survival).
No thanks. I like my 3 specs the way they are. No need for a 4th. Lets just let this topic Rest In Peace.
I think we need the class fixed before we worry about a tank spec.
yes the answser is yes. it will happen one day i believe. hopefully sooner than later.
Then i would vote no. Losing either is losing the main iconic ideas of what is is to be a shaman.
Give it to evokers as their third then, if we even need another tank spec.
More tank specs doesnt create more tanks.
I think an earth themed tank spec would be super Fn cool. Do I think it will ever happen? No.
You mean how they replaced feral to make guardian?
This argument makes no sense.
They’ve never deleted a spec or replaced their a role before.
They’ve only ever added a spec like with Druids.
Why do people act like the only possible way this could be accomplished is by deleting a existing spec? It’s such a weird logical leap.
Survival: Ranged DPS replaced by melee DPS. Ask in the Hunter forums how they feel about the change of role in the class.
Missed the part on blizzard working on less specs going forward.
Druid (pre-Cata) had 2 distinct roles in the one spec at the time. Shaman do not (at this time).
Blizzard have voiced their intention to keep the number of specs per class at a low (as we’ve seen in DH and Evoker).
Without adding a fourth spec to Shaman (as Blizzard had voiced their reasons not to), how else would you introduce a tank spec to Shaman.
This is typical of what happens when you do something for an extended period of time. You think you own it and have a vital say in what happens. When in reality none of us or our opiniins matter. If they did qe wouldn’t all be on the forums b@tch&ng constantly about the decisions being made.
Exactly.
These entitled children thinking game development is a democracy, and that their voice matters
And the people completely missing the tongue in cheek humour of the above…
Though seriously, if the above is out of the equation, Blizzard have stated they do not intend to introduce additional specs to existing classes, and the only reason Druid was expanded into 4 specs was that it actively had 2 existing roles within the spec at the time (where Shaman does not), what other options are available for Shaman to receive a tank spec?
