How many games does Activision own?

I think Microsoft overpaid.

They don’t need a ton. CoD and the mobile games King puts out are basically money printing machines.

One of the lists I found, which likely doesn’t cover everything:

Arcanum
Arkadian Warriors
Blackthorne
Blood Drive
Boogie Bunnies
Cabela’s Big Game Hunter
Call of Duty
Crash Bandicoot
Dark Reign
Diablo
Freeway
Gabriel Knight
Geometry Wars
Guitar Hero
Hearthstone
Heretic
Heroes of the Storm
Hexen
Interstate
Kaboom!
King’s Quest
Leather Goddesses of Phobos!
Laser Blast
The Lost Vikings
Metal Arms
Overwatch
Pharaoh
Pitfall
Planetfall (1983)
Prototype
Quest for Glory
River Raid
Rock n’ Roll Racing
Singularity
Skylanders
Spyro
StarCraft
TimeShift
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
Vigilante 8
Warcraft
World of Warcraft
Zeus
Zombie Wranglers
Zork

There are a lot of IPs that are overdue for a revival that MS can now let their studios play with (if this finalizes, of course). I have no doubt they’ll recoup in the long run.

Silly Microsoft, they paid 60 billion $ when candy crush is free and CoD is only like 80$ CAD :man_facepalming:

If the deal included only wow or cod it would still have been worth it at that price. Almost a steal that they were able to get ALL of this for that price.

What? No Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge?

You do understand that Activision is one of the oldest ( if not THE oldest) third-party video game companies, correct?

They started when some game programmers from Atari got fed up with the working conditions and started their own company. They’ve literally been around since the days of the Atari 2600.

They own LOTS of video game IPs, some of which haven’t been used for years but could be very popular again if they decided to redevelop them.

Yeah, that list is just a fraction of the games they’ve made. Pretty sure they made the first Ghostbusters game ever as well (in addition to MANY other properties).

That’s fine but why didn’t Activision themselves do anything with them?

Just bad management over the years.

They are the oldest company, not necessarily the best managed. There are many loved properties in their library that if someone with the right funding and proper management worked on them to bring them back, it could be glorious.

Microsoft owning them might just be the thing that brings some of those back and better than ever.

I definitely wouldn’t count on that. They’re going to have to select the ones that they think are going to make money and even then that means they have to start hiring new people.

Which means they have to spend a lot more money into a game that they’re not sure if it’s going to make money.

They can open up maybe a retro portion of their gaming system to help use as a selling feature but that’s about it.

If any of the other games were such a money maker Activision would have used them by now.

I suggest researching how mobile games are monetized. CC alone is $1B+ a year in revenue.

Edit: Sorry. Nearly $3B in 2022.

Microsoft is investing to change the way we play games, if it pays off by investing early and becoming the “Netflix for gaming,” they will reap it back in the future.

Even now with so many competing services, for most people it is, “I have netflix and such and such.” Netflix is the default movie/tv streaming service at this point. Even if they paid too much upfront, it will benefit them in the long run. They didn’t though, they saw an opportunity to get ATVI at a reduced price because of the mess going on at Blizzard and ATVI.

Again, that could be a victim of bad management. There are properties they could develop in new ways that people who have been gaming for years (like myself and people my age) would be open to trying if they do the property justice.

Just because Activision didn’t do it when they were solo, doesn’t mean that it can’t or won’t be done under new management as a development studio for a bigger company.

Also, keep in mind Activision is still making money off older properties (like the previously mentioned Atari games) because they are still being licensed back to retro gaming outlets. I have a couple of those units and I’m sure Activision had to get SOME payment for including those games.

Microsoft actually probably underpaid for this deal, to be honest.

one thing about MS, theyre in it for the money. lol. Always have been. Theres no way they invest like this without a game plan to make lots more money.

Microsoft hasn’t paid a thin dime … an offer is not a purchase , at this point in time its still an offer … not a penny has changed hands as yet.

again what is this speaking of an offer like its a done deal … nothing is set in stone at this point … 60 +billion in CASH was the Offer, if the media is correct, it will be the largest cash transaction in human history. WHEN and IF the sale goes through.
.
That amount of cash moving from one company to another will draw ‘parasites’ . those being all the entity’s that will want to tax tag squeeze siphon and pinch a share off of it … which will slow down sales negotiations.
as an example look at Invidia’s try at buying a chip making company… that sale was killed in the negotiations.

They own hexen?! Hexen 2 was awesome
