I wonder how many current WoW players got started with EverQuest?
My good friend and I came from many years as EQ vets when WoW launched. It felt like such a HUGE step forward.
I do still look back with nostalgia at the old EQ days. Still log in now and then.

Raises Hand and I no longer play EQ it just got TOO bloated and paying for 4 plus accounts to play with any hope of accomplishing anything just got so tedious. If they remade it into a modern MMO with more solo play options like WOW then yes I would play it again.
I did make a Cleric on a friend’s EQ1 account back in 2005 in advance of buying WoW and play around with it for a week or so.
Once I figured out that WoW was EQ but better and set in the Warcraft world, which I knew from the RTS games, I was sold on that.
I did. And joined the server all the monks from EQ were joining. Though they were horde and I wanted alliance. Still had some friends there that retired along the way
I came from Asheron’s Call/Ultima Online. Never did play EQ.
I no longer play either AC or UO. Just WoW now.
Yes, came over at about the same time from Rallos Zek , still go back and play now and again
I spent some time in EQ but played a lot more AC and abandoned it entirely for DAOC when it came out. Played a dark elf on Tallon Zek. Caused a lot of chaos. Was good times.
i played EQ when the Ruins of Kunark expansion was the latest and greatest. I continued playing it up until EQ2 released, then played that for a year before playing WoW, played both WoW and EQ2 side by side for a while until eventually giving up on EQ2 and sticking with WoW as my friends were all there.
I started playing EQ late in the original era. Gnome magician!
I have some fond memories of that game, made it all the way to Taelosia, but that expansion was too jacked up, and that’s about the time WoW was in beta. Got in the closed beta early on, and never played EQ again.
Yeah it’s like… I appreciated EQ for what it was at the time. I played a Beastlord for the majority of my time so I soloed a lot. I remember doing my Homework for high school while I waited to recover mana.
It’s not a game I have ANY desire to ever return to, but I remember it fondly for the time I spent in it.
i actually was on the beta team for EQ back in 1998 and it was awesome! They even put in my suggestion for necromancers to summon corpses. But yeah, I started at EQ and look for the day that EQ comes back to light with newer graphics, the graphics of WoW just felt good and being able to unlimited jump to get away was crazy OP (in eq you could only jump about 3 times and then you were stunned spinning in a death circle) lol

EQ didn’t really peek my interest enough to play it, though I did enjoy watching my roommate play it, was into CoH and FFXI until TBC came out and made the switch then lol.
Me too, was on Povar realm. Got married there. A GM married us in front of the whole guild. EQ has last names so I was Orbital Darkfire and she was Fairy Darkfire.
Back then video games came in a box at Kmart, i remember looking at the box and not knowing till then, that games like that existed.
There should have been a warning label on box that said “Warning, this game requires Diamond Monster Fusion Voodoo Banshee Video card, and SoundBlaster 16 audio card”
Good thing I had a Circuit City credit card I hadn’t used yet.

My first “wow” moment was on that magician, coming out of Akanon for the first time into the Steamfont mountains, only to die like 15min later to a spider. 
I also really enjoyed the Everfrost Peaks on my barbarian shaman. The landscape was just really cool, and completely different from the stuff I’d seen on Faydwer.

Thats the realm i was on too and moved to Xev, I was in a fairly big raiding guild named “Harmonium”, it was so fun. We even had a rapper in the guild and he did a video/song of us = https://youtu.be/w0YrFUWvBig?t=6
EQ is where I started… mostly moved to WoW because all of my friends did. If they hadn’t, I’d probably still be playing EQ, because I always played an Enchanter and WoW has nothing like it.
I’m from MapleStory. I first tried to play MMO because my crush played Ragnarok online.
I came from Runescape.
Being able to jump whenever I wanted to in an online game was novel to me.
