How many buttons is too much for you?
Personally I use the buttons from 1 to 6 and then Q, E, R, F, T and G, as well as º and F1 to F4, for a total of 17 buttons. At most I can use 4 more buttons with S1 to S4, for a total of 21 buttons (and some times less personal performance).
More than that is just too much for me, and a rotation of more than 6 buttons is already annoying, I normally use the rest of the buttons for CC, Ofensive and defensive CDs, and situationals.
You don’t use shift ctrl or alt modifiers?
Been playing games with controller lately, and so far my button cap of comfort is 43.
On keyboard and mouse I get cranky at around 15.
S1 to S4 = Shift1 to 4 I did not express myself very well, Control and Alt are very uncomfortable to use for me. I play better without using them.
I also use 1-6 and the rows below, except for e s d f .
QERF
12345670 (6,7,0 bound to mouse)
Shift modifiers for the above
Then I start to run out of room. I run out of room frequently for WoW.
Usually I don’t keybind absolutely everything. Just my rotation abilities, major cooldowns, emergency heal, emergency get away, emergency barrier, and mount.
WoW has too many buttons, at least for my tiny hands.
Interestingly I find controllers better for lots of buttons in FFXIV since you can use the bumbers to quickly jump between hot bars.
I play brewmaster on an alt with no real issues so, my number I guess is infinite?
But on a more serious note, it depends more so on the comfortable keyboard size than any number of modifiers or the like because you can ALWAYS create your own keybindings and “modifiers” that make sense to oneself (even if it might require some more finagling to get it to work coding-wise) so, honestly … depends on one’s comfortable keyboard size more so than anything else
And as long as one can have that … assuming you even have semi-functioning eye-to-hand coordination you can even play as a brewmaster at that point
(Personally, my setup is 1-6 + 0 + QWERFVADZXC + Tab + Spacebar + Scroll wheel + Sidebuttons on my mouse, and adding Alt and Shift to some of these in various different combinations)
Ultra useful keybind for those who wants it!
Ctrl + Spacebar, it is by far the best 'panic' button you could possibly EVER have!!
I take my hat off to you sir, that’s impressive.
But isn’t that a bit much for a game?
Not really, like it sounds a lot but place your hand on the keyboard and think “I can reach however many buttons when I type (writing), so how many keys can one of my hands reach?”
Once you add shift or control … you can suddenly easily reach upwards of 40-50 different key combinations without any issues at all
I just use the ones I’m comfortable with which is enough to play the most button intensive specs in the game, slightly annoying in that I want a few more hotkeys but none that would really suit me that much
But no, it honestly isn’t “much” - its just as possibly as I can strategically, comfortably, and intelligently map my keybindings
I find it’s not the number of buttons I can reach, but the number of keybinds my pea brain can remember quickly.
“What was healthstone? Ctrl-Shift-middle mouse? Or was it Shift-G? Oh crap here they come…”
…
“Oh, that’s right it was S.”

Dunno, but pve feels super chill after pvp which often benefits from a lot more binds.
for me it’s about 36, but i can do up to 48 without using any letter/number/function keys on the keyboard. 1-9, 0, -, = is 12 binds from my mouse side buttons. combining those with shift/alt/ctrl adds 36 more - honestly don’t know how i put up with this game without an mmo mouse for so long
If you can’t bind it to where your left hand can remain in its typing position is too much
to be honest I never buy hardware for gaming, I think it’s expensive for too little, and if a game is designed for additional hardware to my PC (like VR) I just don’t play it XD
I got 1-9, graves key, F1-F8, R, T, Y, G, H, Z, X, C, V, B, N, and J.
Q and E are strafing (can’t let go of W). And ASDF are for arena targeting that I haven’t used in while.
I use a chiclet keyboard and have larger hands hence the more than usual binds. I have shift, ctrl, and alt on a few of the binds depending on if it makes sense to combo things like mass dispel/dome or RoP/leg sweep. Or for targeting a different arena member/target.
I got a g602 but those buttons are for shift/alt/ctrl.
Enh Shaman. o.o
LOL, but for details…
My arthritic hands can use 1-6. I use 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 on my mouse. Cooldowns I just click. Healing is on Healbot. F is interrupt, V is speed boost, middle is something else needed.
eh that’s fair. i built a gaming pc with WoW in mind after gaming on laptops and old office computers since vanilla and at that point the cost of a mouse isn’t that bad
Yeah I was playing enhance a few months ago to level in timewalking and holy hell the button volume is bad vs what I liked in legion and bfa. Whole hand was hurting, meanwhile I could go 12+ hours playing on my warrior.
