How many boars would it take to level from 20-120?

Only killing boars. Moving on as soon as they aren’t worth the experience anymore.

Is there a way to calculate how much exp a specific boar would give at each level and find the “optimal” boar-slaying path to get from 20-120?

Hypothetical question of course.

EDIT: Also, hypothetically, what would be the best class to kill said boars with? Hunter?

Exactly. On a side note - anyone know if this song is copyrighted or something along the lines of that? As in if I were to have it on the background constantly in a stream would that be allowed?

I think you could probably start in Elwynn Forest, then move to Westfall for a bit. After that you’d want to go up to the Western Plaguelands until 60.
You would probably need to log after you hit a new level, to sort of kick-start the map and set the mobs back to your level for optimium XP.
After you hit 60, you could kill those demon boars near the horde and Alliance bases in Hellfire Peninsula (Outland). After that, I don’t know. I think your brain would snap clean in half through sheer mind numbing boredom. Maybe ask Doubleagent?

As to how many you would need, my gut feeling is that it would be the same number per level, as long as they (the pigs) match your level. You’re obviously gonna get less XP if they are a level below you.

Going Horde side since I want to unlock the heritage armor, but yeah, I don’t think there’s any easy way short of killing a boar at each level, writing the exp gained, and calculating it out on a per-level basis. Thanks for the detailed response!

You’d want to start in durotar or the dwarf area as they both have boars in the 1-5 range and the the 5-20 range parts of the zones.
Then you could go anywhere really - although now that I think on it (unless you count quill boars) the horde is lacking in boars in it’s level 20-30 bracket, save the darktusk boars in silverpine forest. For alliance you could go to loch modan or westfall. You could grind these mobs all the way to 60, or switch to other boars. It doesn’t really matter.
After that it’s hellfire boars from 60-80 because I can’t remember any boars in northrend.
81-90 might be where you’re stopped. Is there any source of boars in cata or pandaria? You may be forced to continue grinding level 80 boars until they no longer give any exp, and then go to draenor via warlock portal to grind boars a few levels over you. After that there are plenty of boars in highmountain - although if you’re playing horde getting to kul tiras before max level without completing the quest may be quite tricky. You’ll either need a portal from a friend or you’ll need to catch a ride on the alliance boat.

The actual number depends entirely on how often you’re rested, warmode, heirlooms, ect.
