How long will this last?

I don’t really understand how seasons work.
Will the season be a forever thing?
Or will it end and we have to go back go prot paladins sucking again?

The season lasts for about 12 months. Then there might be another season. I imagine if some changes work really well they might be included in future iterations of vanilla or seasons. Or it might also be back to paladins as they are in vanilla now.

Think they said more like 18 months for this season.

It’s usually a semi-limited time event. We have somewhere close to a year of “phase releases” and then they typically merge us to an Era server, or onto their “progressive” servers.

Just enjoy the ride until we’re told its nearing the end. That’s all we can do right now

I’m hoping that before the season ends they announce that they have created an actual plan for Classic+ and it will be things that worked well in SoD and were in line with actual vanilla+.

Things like
Crusader strike for paladins.
Arcane Blast for Mages.
Water Shield for Shamans
Additional hunter melee skills
ect

SoD will most likely be closer to 1.5-2 years in my opinion if the four phases last too long and they also add more end game content then we could imagine in this SoD journey.

It sounds like they will be monitoring how the community is progressing to announce/make adjustments to the next phase date launch.

Our characters will have a place to go at the end of the journey and whether that is transferring those characters to a classic era server, a SoD type era server where all the changes remain there, or have the opportunity to transfer those characters to the current cata classic servers. I’m doubtful we’d not have a SoD type era server though as if we’d transfer to classic era, not only would we lose the runes, but most likely any SoD type gear that we’ll most likely get. We already see there will be new BFD/profession gear so it will most likely be throughout the SoD content journey. Although it could happen if SoD is a major flop and few people don’t remain in the end, only time will tell and what player feedback to blizzard is at that time may influence their final decision.

What comes after SoD? We have 0 clue.

I do hope that blizzard finds a good timing to introduce a fresh classic server progression realm going from classic, tbc and then wrath again as many were only interested in those three. But they also are concerned with having too many options out there that will split up the community even more, but I’m sure there will be a good time to have that option at some point. Heck, I think they should just give a fresh classic server on the era side now as many have asked for that since TBC came out.
