How Long Have you been playing World of Warcraft, And what do you think of it as a MMORPG. Would like to hear How you got into playing Wow. What do you think of the Wow experience so far?
Playing since roughly the start of wotlk/end of bc. Got into it cuz it was everywhere at the time, commercials, south park, everything. Curiosity got me finally. Played on and off with the 60 day prepaid cards. Skipped all of cata. Came back during mop and decided to go pandaren ladies only, and have a full sub from that point on. Took a slight break during wod after getting the garrison setup and just finding i didn’t like it.
Came back during legion and have stayed subbed the whole time, SL i’ve probably played almost as much as i did back in the day during mop.
As for how i feel? I’ve liked sl from a gameplay standpoint for the most part(gasp!) but from a lore standpoint it’s absolute trash, the worst in the games history. And i’m not even a big lore player. But hey… i finally got pandaren death knights.
GIVE US WARLOCKS NEXT BLIZZARD!
Open beta, day 1. WoW’s become very formulaic (well… always was) but since I only play casually it works out fairly well for my needs.
I started in September 2005.
BFA and SL’s are utterly trash attempts to reinvent an already existing BETTER wheel.
That the current Blizzard thinks it can forcibly improve the game with retcons that jar the story rather than improve it is all the proof I need that the current crew…?
Has absolutely NO idea what they’re doing here.
Day one of live servers, and well, this:
We should do that thing where we pool our money and last man standing gets it all.
I first started playing in 2006. My son got me started and at first I would just log in when he did. Then I got to where I would login and play even when he couldn’t.
WoW was my first and only MMORPG. I have taken breaks and haven’t played the entire 16 years. Even though I play mostly solo, just seeing other players around and occasionally interacting or grouping with them gives the game a special dynamic.
Hearing the music of Teldrassil and Elwynn brings back many memories from when my son was pre-teen and living at home. Many good times.
Would I be disqualified for having taken a break from the beginning of Cata to the start of WoD?
omg yes, you suck. 10 year statue here

Cata broke my raiding guild and it took me a while to come back and just pick up WoW as a fun solo game.
Tahbitha was created in December 2004 and has been my main ever since and will always remain so. I had been playing DAOC before then (an awesome game for its time) and my whole guild was planning on trying out this whole Warcraft thing so I figured, why not?
I’ve taken a few breaks, some longer than others, but even when I wasn’t actively playing I’ve always kept up with the game and each expansion’s particular issues.
I raided pretty hardcore in Vanilla/TBC/WOTLK but I’ve moved away from that over time. Once I passed my 50th birthday I started to become more aware that we don’t live forever and I’m getting choosier about how I spend my free time. I don’t enjoy raiding any longer so don’t do it other than the occasional LFR. It’s no fun for me and I do not want to spend my free time doing stuff I don’t enjoy.
I’ve been here off an on since 2005. I played EQ for quite a few years before. Our guild and friends started WoW and told me about how great it was, and they weren’t wrong.
Vanilla was fun, but more punishing than now. Even though I miss the community aspect, there have been so many QoL upgrades since then.
I’ve PvP’d, raided in Vanilla, BC and some MoP. I’ve taken breaks, played other games alongside this one, but I always come back. This is by far my favorite game.
I love the combat, class/race choices and customization, the zones and music, and all the different things you can do.
How about you OP?
I first started in wod. Got my garrison up and running then quit. I had no idea what was going on and lost interest.
Came back some time in legion. I got to some timegated quest where I had to get x amount of some currency to continue. I thought that was the dumbest thing ever so I quit.
Came back in 8.2. I wanted to do pvp. Then I found out mythic plus existed so I started doing those.
Then I joined a guild and started doing raids.
Back in 8.2, I had a blast. Everything was new and fresh. The loot drops were plentiful.
After a few months, I realized how much I hated the walls and gates the systems had in place.
8.3 comes out. I’m excited. Then I quickly realize I hated torghast, the legendary cloak, and random corruptions.
Then the vendor comes out on a rotation. Lol.
The mythic plus affix in 8.3 was annoying as a tank.
Shadowlands comes out and I’m excited. They were supposed to change things.
Well, less loot, more timegates, more required grinding content for power outside of my preferred content. Oh, and pvp no longer scaled.
Honestly, I like the gameplay and the complexity of some specs. I like the raids. Mythic plus is pretty good minus a few affixes.
Overall, the game kinda sux tbh. I’m hoping 10.0 sees a huge shift. If it doesn’t move away from the timegates, forced content, time wasting systems, etc. if it doesn’t get better stories and quests, more fun stuff to do just for fun, etc. I’ll probably quit for good.
Only real reason I’m back for 9.2 is to raid with the guild. If it wasn’t for that, I’d be playing other games and just wait for 10.0.
15 years this week. (Not my original account.)
Overall it’s as successful as anyone could ever hope for in a vidya game. Plenty of issues over the years, maybe more now than ever, but it’s been a heck of a ride over the years, and lots of fun.
My wife’s friend from high-school was trying to talk her into playing while at the same time a friend of mine from work was trying to get me to play, so we got to talking about it one night and decided to try it. Safe to say we liked it.
(Though she doesn’t play anymore.)
You skipped one of my favorite expansions and then stepped off the curb into WoD. You poor soul. (Although as a PvPer I loved WoD. Cata through WoD was probably the best 3 expansion stretch for PvP in the game’s history for me.)
BC
It’s fine, always room for improvement of course. If I didn’t at least somewhat enjoy it then I’d quit.
You’re approaching having more posts than achievement points. Come on Kaurmine! WOO WOO WOO!
I’m going to be watching this closely now when I see you post.
As long as I don’t reach my collector completion score in posts I’m fine ![]()

That’s your next goal.
Started in 2004 made my first Night Elf hunter fell in love with the character and class. Over the years I’ve made most of the classes. Have had a ton of fun that I’m very grateful for. I always come back to my Hunter. I have a lot of Hunters. I also like Playing Healers. And Mages. The game has changed some I think for the better. I love walking around the port town Boralus it has so much charm that I feel at home there. Wow still makes me very happy.
