If I delete a character, is the name tied to my account for a certain period of time? Just tried this exercise with a friend yesterday where I asked him to make a new char using my deleted char’s name and he encountered an error “Name unavailable” 24 hours after I had deleted my character.
Where you able to create a character with that name?
Yes, it appears to still be tied to my account.

Interesting. What level was your character when you deleted it?

Just found this (on WoWHead):
“Character names, once created, are “locked” to a battle.net account with a “stopped” timer at 90 days. When a character gets deleted, the timer starts, but the account that owned the character can freely reuse the name, resetting this hidden timer when the name is used again. The name is blocked from other accounts during that 90 day timer. If the account that deleted the character does not reuse the name 90 days after deletion, the name is freed up for anyone to grab.”

Yep. They did that because people were abusing the restore system for name changes.
