How likely is it that Activision wants us to quit Classic and "go back to retail"?

Somewhere between 7-10. One game is easier to pay for than two. It’s possible that they care about the employees working on Classic WoW so there may be some desire at maintaining the work position. Basically run this thought experiment. Would they ever have developed Classic WoW if it wasn’t for public outcry? That shows you how much they care about it as a concept.

Good point. I would think that the employees that maintain “Classic” were hired on >2009, and carry over Cata+ values into a game that was not meant to have them.

For the next month, 100% likelihood. That’s why the BWL patch is in February.

Props to the team that brought BWL to the playerbase! But that is not the point of this topic. 1-10 please

Giving it a 9.

100% Sure that is their end game hope. Mainly because retail has a cash shop, classic doesn’t. The day skill trees go bye bye though is they day I leave again too.

I give your post a 0. As far as your theory I give it a 1. Why would they care if people play retail as long as they are paying a sub?

Still on Activision took over Blizzard myth?

They don’t care as long as you pay 15/mo

Easy 5/10. Classic was / is always bait for people, the same as every new piece of content is. Classic was never meant to have long-term retention, it was meant to bring people back. Once you’re back playing ANY WoW, you’re more likely to go to Shadowlands. If even a few people in your guild are going to do it, you are going to be more tempted.

That doesn’t mean they are deliberately making classic worse for the express purpose of goading you into Shadowlands. It means they are hungry for your money. They get your money either way so as long as you pay for WoW in some capacity they couldn’t care less. In other words they don’t necessarily want you to QUIT classic, but they are quite happy for you to play classic, retail, or both.

They would 100% want us to play retail over classic it has micro transactions.

Any sub is better than no sub atm

Eh, I doubt they’re sad to have hundreds of thousands of people playing a game they don’t have to spend money developing new content for.

I’m taking a break from Classic for a bit since I’ve been grinding alts and gold for mounts. I went back to retail to play the new intro. quests/storylines to get to the new invasion zones.

Must be Deja Vu, because I’m grinding dailies in the Vale again just like in MOP. That was enough to put retail on the back burner again.

Yea… this. The cost to maintain Wow is absurdly low compared to their revenue.

Maintaining a few dozen classic servers and a couple devs is nothing compared to what they’re bringing in.

Remember Blizz has all the data. They know exactly how many players are playing Classic exclusively or near so, so as long as they’re getting a decent return on their investment of near nothing, they’re going to want classic to succeed.

This “Blizzard is deliberately killing classic” trend lately is beyond dumb. Subs skyrocketed when classic was released. They’re seeing higher subs now then they have in years. At the end of the day they’re not going to give a flying fk if people are playing retail or classic - as long as they’re playing and continuing to pay. Classic is so low maintenance for them that it would be business suicide for them to get rid of it or try to push us back to retail.

Cash shops. There profits are more than tripled with everyone buying stuff.

What’s with all the micro transaction stuff though. I don’t buy micro transactions. Or tokens. Or boosts. Or mounts. I paid ONCE for a single character’s realm transfer. That’s it.

So what difference is it if I play classic or retail? I’m not making micro transactions either way.

Its impressive how bitter this community is
