How it works?

if we dont own BFA wow version will we need to buy it in order to play wow classic and then select a classic realm or will we just have to buy a wow classic version ?

Nope!

All you need to do is create an account and sub. Even if you haven’t played since say BC you can log into that account add time and play Classic!

There are no more “box” costs besides the most current expansion. So if you create a new account and add time you can play WoW 1-110 with no restrictions.

Only need BFA if you want it.

You only need a subscription. No need to buy anything else.

Install the free trial if you don’t have anything yet, sub, install Classic Client.

so can i just play a trial push a toon to 20 and be able to use him on classic ?

no, the trial is for retail, the characters wont translate as far as I know, no free trial for classic has been mentioned that I know of.

$15 is all you have to spend per month to play classic wow. You do not need to buy the game itself.

Retail (BFA) and Classic WoW do not interact with each other whatsoever.

Totally separate entities (thankfully)

I thought for sure this isn’t true if someone is starting the game from scratch and never bought any version of WoW in the past. They would have to buy the base game as well as set up a subscription.

But nope, after googling around, it looks like sometime right around a year ago Blizzard removed the “battle chest” for legion which was the “base game” you would have to buy. Starting from scratch all you need to do is pay $15 for a subscription and you can play all content up to Legion - you only have to buy BFA, the latest expansion.

This then confirms that in order to play classic the only thing you need to do is set up a subscription. That’s pretty awesome. And probably a calculated business move on Blizzard’s end because that same subscription gets them Classic along with Retail up to content just before the latest expansion.
