How is survival hunter?

Bm is boring (to me) and marksman I don’t like because they can’t use pets. Looking at surv abilities it looks fun, but I know it’s the least played class and idk the reason but it can’t be a good one.

Apart from certain levels of arena play, it doesn’t have a ton of representation in e.g. content no.

Looking at PvE, it’s a melee spec and thus it has to compete against a lot of other melee-specs. There aren’t that many spots open for melee most of the time, and since SV doesn’t bring much apart from damage and an immunity, it has a hard time competing with other specs in terms of it’s value/usefulness on a group-wide basis.

Having said that, unless you want to play on a competitive level, the spec is perfectly fine.

(Although, what they did to the cast time of pet res in the pre-patch has kind of burned all Hunter specs in certain areas of the game, even at lower levels of play)

But yeah, find a reasonable guild which has nothing against you as SV and you will be fine really.

what did they do to pet rez

Initially they increased the cast time from 2 sec, up to 6 sec.

They then brought it down to 4 sec.

Still though, considering how squishy hunter pets are, it’s still very bad.

If you like niche specs (outlaw, enhance) then survival will be extremely fun.

If you like pvp then survival is really the only niche spec that’s not only viable but great (compared to enhance and outlaw)

If your an intense pugger io raider person or a mythic raider then survival is pretty useless and u prob won’t get into groups.

However if your a casual raider that’s in a guild and does heroic then you’ll be fine (on my sv I was in heroic raiding all the way up to Azhara before taking a break no one complained I was playing sv)

It’s up to you really. If your pvp centric and love the aesthetic of being a mail wearing Rambo jumping in and out of range while still maintaining dps then it’s for you.

If your a hardcore mythic raider or pug a ton of mythics then I wouldn’t suggest it.

I always join big guilds that does heroic raiding and a ton of mythic pluses so I never have a problem getting into high keys as survival. of course you have to learn the spec right. even if it became watered down a bit from legion its still something you need to practice with.

Thanks, I main Alliance paladin but wanted a horde toon so I made a darkspear hunter and survival seemed the most fun.

Really fun in PvP if that’s your thing, the way it plays changes kind of dramatically in PvE though and I think it’s much more lackluster in that environment

Just a tiny bit of correction.

MM can use pets. It’s just a DPS loss in AoE situations because pets don’t have AoE attacks. On single target fights, the DPS loss is something like 1% or 2%, but you get pet utility.

But like others said here, MSV is your best bet for PvP, and if you like it for PvE… all more power to you! :slightly_smiling_face:

Yea, honestly I do all the raiding and stuff on my pally, this is just to experience the horde quests and to collect pets and stuff for shots and giggles. In that regard I find surv the most fun.

What makes it special in PvP?

You play like a mix of melee and range, looking for windows where you can stay in melee range and have tons of counterpressure on teams. But there’s also a ton of kiting and ways to use your tools to do so.

There’s lots of decision making on when to go in properly and how to use your mobility/when to use your mobility that it’s far more dynamic

Wildfire infusion and mongoose bite mechanics in general are really interesting to deal with in PvP, but in PvE it’s not really a thought whatsoever
