So I want to main a rogue but there’s so many buttons. I like that they are making slice n dice passive. Will that help the skill curve?
This is such a broad question.
The short answer is Sub is potentially better than it has ever been because Trickster allows cleave and that was always designed to be the weakness of Sub rogue, so with that weakness patched, Sub should feel really good.
The unfortunate reality is that losing Acrobatic strikes single handedly makes Sub feel like unplayable garbage. Ret, Survival, Enhance, and Unholy all have strong options for maintaining uptime when it’s time to move out of the swirlies. Rogue used to dance around these mechanics, but now they basically just go AFK until the mechanic is over and they’re allowed to play again.
While Trickster is mechanically useful, thematically all 3 hero talent trees for Rogues are a huge miss. Not a single rogue in the entire community ever woke up in the morning and said “I can’t wait to be a Trickster, Fatebound or Deathstalker in the expansion”, because those aren’t cool class identity concepts in the way that Templar, Herald of the Sun, Rider of the Apocalypse, Dark Ranger, or Frostfire are. These concepts are completely uncool and uninspired and have zero visual flavor and they’re bad.
Delves, like Hero talents, are the marquee feature of the expansion. Arguably rogues are the worst class at delves, largely because they lack self sustain.
Slice and Dice is easier to maintain, but it’s button bloat when it should just be a passive buff. Sub will get substantially easier in 11.0.5 when invigorating shadowdust is gone (more fixed cooldown timing), but with Flagellation and Goremaw on top of Shadowblades and Vanish and Dance and Symbols, it will still be a button bloated disaster in need of pruning.
As someone who’s got no real experience with rogues, I think subtlety is the most mechanically challenging spec to play. You’d have to be able to manage all of its skills properly first and foremost to ensure you’re even able to play it effectively in the first place.
Not so sure how it’s performing in pve, but in pvp there’s a mountain of difference between good and bad sub rogues. Bad ones will seem like theyre mosquitoes made of paper, good ones will make you want to rip your hair out
From my experience, just leveling and not doing high level content, sub rogue is a very rogue-y rogue. Very high burst damage during their CD windows, and nothing else going on outside of that. It’s actually kinda fun though.
rogue mains shouldve seen it coming a mile away after blizzard threw em in the sewers & not ravenholdt manor
