I do like to pvp at some points and I also like to roleplay at some points too. When all this changed few years ago (taken out open world pvp). GM told me if I want to pvp, need to stick with normal servers and don’t get into RP servers.
The hard parts is find players to join your guild, most doesn’t know how or even have any interest in roleplaying in normal servers. Sadly I don’t see both, but I do it anyway.
I got tired of getting killed while exploring, getting flagged for no reasons and some nasty setup as npcs that are pvp that will hit you and you die in one hit. Funny thing is that I have seen opposite faction going near the flight master and nothing happen. But in some places it WILL kill you. I wasn’t happy with that at all, was doing well for couple of weeks until my first death happen in Pandaria, Northern region where you start out, funny I see a lot of monkeys in their 90s, then something came out of no where WHAM, your dead lol. That really ruin my day playing the game and if that happen, more likely it will happen many other places.
What I would like to know is what the different between normal servers to roleplaying one? I use to play on roleplaying before all this changed. Now I thinking of going to the Roleplaying server and see if I can enjoy the game. My question is, are those npcs still gonna hit you like I mention earlier? I wasn’t even flagged for pvp, but I do know if you are close to them, you will automatically get flagged. Back in Pandaria I was pretty darn far away from that nasty boss that killed me. Just terrible how they setup the game, there wasn’t any faction involved in that spot, just a cruel ambush!
The difference is how the rules are enforced. GMs on RP servers tend to be more strict about things like player names. The actual mechanics of how the game works doesn’t change.
Long answer is there are some small RP communities around, not as many as there used to be. Unless you fit into their cliques and aren’t new, you might find rp.
The two larger servers have been filled with pvers who don’t really participate.
This is all my own personal experience though, you may find it different. But for me as a new player a few years ago, it put me off all things RP.
Are they though? I played most of my WoW life on Wyrmrest Accord, and I’ve seen plenty of downright heinous names. Also, most of my toons don’t fall in line with RP naming policies and I was never reported either. I don’t think they care as much as they used to, or maybe the players don’t care as much.
Edit for clarity: Yes, I did join a couple RP guilds and the GMs didn’t care because most people used addons and changed their names anyway, and 2 or 3 of them used that addon that changes your name in chat too so it can show whatever.
Your toons name essentially became a sign in name and nobody used it unless it matched your RP name. lol
Yeah I seen a lot of weird and/or offended character names in the game and doesn’t look like they are doing much about it.
Few years back I had one player threaten my gf as rape, etc. It was pretty bad, so I reported him and he was still active after two or three weeks. I don’t think Blizzard are doing their jobs well, beside there are still a lot of glitches in the game and been there since the early stage of the game.
Also noticed a lot of poor placement of npcs that are pvp or extremely high level 100-120 in some areas. Some are hidden behind trees or wall, one wrong move, your are dead. I know there a lot of things aren’t balance in the game, so I came to play WoW to enjoy the game. But however not happy or enjoying the game that aren’t setup creatively.
So right now, cant decide to start a new character or simply find another game.
The differences are negligible. Blizzard used to enforce them, but have since slacked off on it, probably because abuse of the report system became rampant. “That’s not how I imagine XYZ race naming their children, REPORTED!”
I wish I were exaggerating…
For the most part, the RP tag has largely become a developer sponsered flag for people of similar interests to come together, in the same way PvP servers still tend to draw in primarily PvPers even though warmode has essentially killed meaning in the flag (and so the flag is gone.)
It makes me wonder if Moonguard’s Goldshire would empty out if they officially sponsored an ERP server?
Thank for the detail guys, I decided to stay where I am at. Infact I couldn’t make a demon hunter unless I start a new character in another realm until reaches to lv.70+ So my NE hunter Lv.92 rip due to lack of interests or creative in Pandaria.
I flown all over the place, Outland and Northrend is fine. But not Pandaria, too many extreme high overall npc with pvp that aren’t part of either faction. That should either push down to same levels as other mobs or removed.
I think majority of name reporting happens out of spite unless the name is especially bad. If the name is funny and good-natured, and you’re not posting crap takes in trade or actively trolling RPers you’re generally safe.
