How is Ret so far?

Considering of running a Ret pally as an alt or possibly could end up as my new main as it’s ranked the same as fury right now as B tier in PvE but also thinking of using it for PvP as the flow of Arms warrior for me doesnt feel right, is there anyone that plays both Warrior and Pally dps and that can give me some solid pointers and also what is a good covenant for both PvE and PvP content for Ret

Make a trial Ret Pali and queue up some arena games. They will start you with a boosted lvl 48 Paladin and you will get a couple of hours of play time.

That’s what I did. Just as you, I am seriously considering using my SL boost on a Ret Paladin. Warrior is also in the running and I trialed both.

The biggest issue for Pali…and it is a big issue, is that they have no gap closers, so they are very easy to kite in PvP.

I had posted about this to see if it improves by lvl 60 and was told that it remains the issue that they have and that they have always had.

That’s not a small thing to consider.

Warriors can stay on target with charge and leap. DKs can pull, etc. Paladin has snares and stuns on cooldown but that’s really it.

If you’re against an experienced frost mage or elemental shaman it’s going to be a very difficult 1v1 situation.

But again, trial it for yourself.

I am still torn between boosting Warrior or ret-Pali.

Ret is maybe b tier for mythics, b-c tier for mythic raiding, bgs A tier, arenas a tier. Be ready to be cc’d everytime you pop wings, and barely get any uptime on a target

Trexx-

What would you say S-Tier 2handed melee dps is? For PvE and PVP? For BGs and Arena?

Arms warriors easily, they absolutely mop the floor with what they bring to a raid/mythic group or arena comp. Rets basically only bring burst and minor team utility that doesn’t even compare to intervene, commanding shout, aoe fear, war banner, much more uptime, on command 20% dmg reduction.

Next question please

Are you serious for PVE ?

I look at logs and see Arms Warrior in the last 3 dps in both raid and M+.

We are definitely A tier in M+

It took this person NO TIME to see you were just rambling. Why is it SO MUCH pally hate by by people IN the community???

At least they are invited to mythic raids for the commanding shout, rets aren’t even need at all lmao

Yet MANY rets were in Hall of Fame Sire runs

If I can get HoF Sire and have over 150 +24 mythics as FERAL, certainly you can figure out how to make Ret work for you in PvE.

Kyrian pelagos is the way to go. As for differences in warrior vs pally dps, longer CDs on ret but more dmg output. You have to know fights and time CDs accordingly to even be competitive in PvE. PvP you just try to get your burst off and usually can down a player in one rotation.

I casually PvP on both and do zero pve so keep that in mind.

At this point, ret is a lot of fun and does stupid damage. I have more fun on my paladin than my warrior usually.

Keep in mind that 9.1 is around the corner. Ret has not been nerfed yet outside of changes to a few PvP talents that probably won’t harm us much.

Ret is also getting some really good PvP talent changes.

Ret covenant is kyrian with pelagos as your soulbind.

Last I checked he’s getting a soulbind that makes it so you take less damage after being cc’d and can’t be slowed below 90% so that’s actually really good for us.

But I really can’t stress how fickle the devs are. They’ve been dumping big reworks randomly so for all I know come Tuesday they’ll announce ret damage is being cut by 50% in PVP and that basically kills the niche thing you do.

Ret isn’t mobile, it doesn’t have strong cc, because hpal exists, you don’t offer anything that they don’t already have. This is important in pve as well.

I mained warrior for first half of 9.0 and have been maining ret for the last few months now.
They are very similar roles, big burst windows with huge utility to your teammates. Sac and bop are used when you would typically rally or intervene. Wings is your warbreaker, still have a snare, and stun is just as long however it’s melee range for ret. I recommend speccing into blinding light and this is practically like your warriors fear. Very, very similar styles but imo having self heals is totally super awesome and I’m not going back to warrior. Ret all day baby.

Ret isn’t getting directly nerf come patch, but it is getting indirectly nerfed. This because many more classes are receiving Healing Reduction effects. Also a healing reduction trinket is being added back in.
Ret’s defensive and survivability is predicated almost solely on its self healing. So these changes will adversely affect it.

You have a bunch of ways to get out of cc though. I didn’t really start getting trained till around 1900 MMR even then it’s nowhere near the pressure locks or healers are getting  he should be okay

Don’t do this.

people who are bad at the game shouldn’t give advice to others.

@ op,
Ret is good rn in pvp. S tier in rbg, borderline s tier in arena
Arms warrior is the same
Arms warrior brings mortal strike style play and is more a staple of a team whereas ret is a compliment. Similar-ish playstyle, but if you like big burst damage play ret, if you like good constant damage where your damage is always relevant, play arms (this is a pvp setting) you can also always respec to fury in pve

Didn’t know 2100, top 5% of players is considered bad… ret isn’t even a top 3 dps spec in either 2s or 3s…

Ret is beyond easy to counter lol
