How is Ret pally in arenas right now?

Is it still advisable to play ret with around 150ms latency when players can die in 3 seconds burst and you need to act fast to support them? And also how do you deal with warrior/priest classes that can dispel both bubbles, leaving you with just one 20% reduction shield left? Thanks!

Everyone’s complaining but they do big big dam in my experience

Insane damage but absolutely garbage defensives. Self heals are bad too. You would be fine if your healer is insane.

high burst but compared to other melee you got nothing to avoid getting CC’d into oblivion plus what paul said, relatively weak defensives and mobility.

Yeah you legit JUST have damage. So much damage that, if ret gets any buffs to defensives, they HAVE to be paired with damage nerfs or it’ll be broken.

Find yourself a Prot War to play with. So they can Demo them for 20% less dmg or Shield Bash for 15% more. Then Prot can perma root so you can stay on target. Then Ret doesn’t feel as squishy and has uptime.

Ret is a middle of the pack dps but because its not S+ tier the self victimizers will come and tell you its unplayable

I agree that people often exaggerate how bad their spec really is but I think its a product of how easy it is to reroll.

DF has amazing gearing for accessibility but its gonna be a huge expac for FOTM. Wanna play the current s tier comp? Cool, character is bis in two days

This all depends if blizzard continues regular balance patches like they was before the holiday break. If the meta is relatively volatile enough as time goes on its not as easy to replicate conquest gear vs honor gear and fotm rerolling will be less lucrative.

If leveling / getting conquest gear took 2 weeks than I would agree but for a good player its literally a day.

anyone saying ret is unplayable is trolling because their damage is easily A tier if not S if we are talking burst

the issue is they are low B high C everywhere else

If they catch you they can 1 shot you. Typical Ret things. Players complain that they are bad when in reality they are just fine. They’re just being outshined by DH and Wars.

Not even Warriors. Like, I can counter a Warrior pretty easily as a Ret and Paladin in general can counter it via BoP (Which sucks that we have to use a 5 minute CD against it, but time it right and it messes a Warrior or MM Hunter’s entire open up). Granted, Fury Warrior Self-Healing should probably be looked at a little more and really, I feel like it’s mostly just Impending Victory’s CD that needs to be adjusted. DHs though need a nerf cause they’re just stupid right now with their “Throw Glaive” meta.

From a comp perspective, you’re going to take a War or a DH over a Ret any day in this meta. 1v1 sure, you’re probably beating a War.

Oh yeah, that’s true. Comp-wise, DH/Warrior all the way.

We have good damage and support but, our defense is highly lacking, even more so, with priests being as strong as they are and being played a lot more in the current meta. Priests MD can be a half second cast on a 25 second CD thus completely negating Bubble as a choice of a defensive. Lay on hands is reduced to 75% health, effected by reduced healing, thus isn’t as good of a fall back if you choose to do so.

All in all, ret is just okay atm, expect a lot of running away and self-healing. Oh, and you are better off playing a demon hunter lol.

I think it mostly depends on how good your healer is and how much you hug a pillar.

I guess in arena it can do “ok” if God is healing you, it’s absolutely horrendous to play w/o having babysitters though.

Pretty much anyone that isnt dh/fury/demo/sp kinda falls over if focused enough dk is polarized into magic but falls to phys. Damage is pretty high from everyone.

Seen some obscene Radiant Decrees and execution sentences tho

It’s the same as it’s been for a while. You have S tier burst, but everything else is sub par. They have some of the weakest dps healing in the game now. I’ve even had hunters out heal me.

Bubble is unreliable so if you’re into a priest which is every game you use it to mitigate damage at high hp don’t bother trying to hold it to low hp.

Lay on hands is now usable in arena, but with the abundance of MS affects and the high speed of dampening it’s normally a 25-40% hp heal on 7 minute cooldown. If you try to use it as a 100% heal you’re going to be sad and wish you used bop instead a lot.

Getting your burst off is still really difficult. As you need several globals to really do it right, and every button you press is big flashing lights that signals ever person in the game to cc you, or run away. You are the slowest and least mobile class in the game so it works most of the time. So it requires some coordination to get some of your burst off.

Outside of your burst windows you’re no threat, and you’re an easy kill target.

Button bloat and GCD lock is pretty terrible. But all in all it’s pretty fun to see big numbers, and try to navigate the setups to get it off. A lot of times you’re such an enticing kill target people will way over extend to kill you, and you can do them dirty.

Probably the worst thing about playing ret is all of the butt hurt people that are still upset that ret was broken in 1 comp in 1 season years ago. The best part is it’s way more rewarding making it work and outplaying people trying to abuse s tier classes on the class that everyone sees and says, kill that guy.

I will fully admit that I had a moment with this in RSS where I bursted a MM Hunter down. Everything lined up perfectly and I murdered him when everything popped all together in about 1 seconds. Next round I had him and the healer that was on his team and they were like “um, what just happened?” I mean, I was in the same boat cause one moment he was alive then he was dead lol
