After my guild shut down mythic raiding progress for the tier last month I started playing Ret to see if it’s something I like and have really enjoyed it. Felt crazy strong as far as damage and toolkit in M+. I’m thinking about switching from enhance to Ret for next tier raiding but don’t 100% understand everything about Ret to know if it’s going to be viable or not. Are they expected to stay strong even after these recent nerfs?
Nobody really knows when it comes right down to it. Blizz can change anything at any moment. My personal prediction is ret is going to end up in the middle of the pack like it usually does, which I’m fine with as an AOTC raider.
But as far as mythic progression, there’s really no reason to run more than 1 ret in the group comp. So if anyone else in your group is planning on playing ret and you have the option for enh shammy, I imagine enh would be an easier way to secure yourself a spot rather than competing with the other ret for one. They’ll probably want the windfury.
Each shammy have way too many button to press. Feel like the class can really use a redesign
I wish there was at least a more passive option. There is a lot going on with that spec. One thing I’m not a huge fan of is the spender juggling. It’s just more than i want to think about while trying to spread FS, keep things on CD, and avoid stuff.
I think a big reason I like ret is because it’s enhance without button bloat and random spender generation. Knowing exactly how much holy power I will have and when I’ll have it is much better than hoping to get a maelstrom proc. While I like the high action per minute classes, enhance is just a little too much.
When I play my each shammy I spend way more time on the rotation that what’s going on and hope I am not standing in anything bad.
Ret has historically been the red-headed stepchild. If Ret stays good through 10.1, it will be the longest it has stayed at this level in the game’s history. Does that mean it’s Ret’s turn? Or, will the pattern continue, where we get a half patch or less being being desired?
I don’t know how to answer that.
Does that matter to you? The rotation will likely be the same. Do you enjoy the class and rotation, or is being “meta” an important part of why you like it?
Ret still has a problem where it has a lot of utility, but nothing that makes people say, “we should get a Ret for…”
This is a problem because if our damage is meh, there’s no community appeal to bring a Ret. But, we have so much utility on paper that nobody really cares about having. That same community revolts if Ret is going to get more utility. “OMG Ret’s going to get MORE utility” and they will tell you about how OP your utility is, but they never mention any of that utility when it’s time to build a raid comp.
None of this is to tell you not to play Ret. It’s to make sure you know that Ret popularity is entirely dependent on the dps tuning, which could change in any weekly patch. Know that going into your decision.
After playing Ret on the PTR for a few hours, ret feels Meh. For PvP it feels qorse than it does currently. The Set pieces you get only one of them have Versatility, and BOTH Holy and Ret sets force you to play a completely different playstyle and it feels really weird.
Other classes are getting things that feel really good and may be overperforming, but it is just the PTR so its subject to change.
Ret healing feels GOD awful. I tried to max my WoG heals, talented in to max. Tooltip says baseline 90k but im only healing 30k in pvp vs priest in pvp combat healing for 120k noncrits normal with flash as shadow. So that combined with our Def nerfs, our survivability its no bueno. With the higher health pools we dont really hit hard at all, other classes are chunking. So i think Rets numbers are going to need a big look at.
I feel like enhance has been in the same boat. It’s really good then nerfed and forgotten about for the rest of the expansion. I enjoy the ret rotation and play style and the toolkit feels good in M+. Not being brought to my guilds raid because of class isn’t really an issue, basically guaranteed a spot because of performance (not a high end guild). I just want to play a competitive class but I guess that can’t really be guaranteed.
