How is rating increase/decrease calculated?

Me and my buddy played in the same RBGs today I started at 950 he started at 1470. When we finished I ended up being 1570 he was 1540. Why was I getting more points than he was? His damage was good every game too. I don’t get it.

Apparently it’s based on the ELO system used for chess

It’s probably changed somewhat since teams are not really a thing anymore, but I’d wager the system is relatively similar

Thank you but I think that’s just talking about arena. My arena rating is always the same as my partners which is why I’m confused.
Here’s my confusion: My friend and I both played exactly seven RBGs in the exact same group, we both won five and lost two. He started at 1470 and ended at 1540. I started at 950 and ended at 1570.

Idk exactly how it works but I’d guess you gain more rating if you beat a team that’s much higher than you

If you played teams around your friends rating, it could explain why you gained more than he did

I’m no expert tho, so I could be completely wrong

I played the exact same games as he did, we were in the same group.

Since he was higher rated than you, he has played games without you. You two have different personal mmr and his is lower than your. He probably lost some low rated games without you.

Overall he has played more than me: I have 10 wins 8 losses and he has 20 wins 23 losses this season. So I get a lot more points than he does from beating the same team because I’ve lost less games overall? That doesn’t seem fair. So if I had a really high CR and my friends CR was really low and we beat a 2k team I’d get like 20 points for the win and he’d get like 5?

Its possible. I also think its dumb, but thats just how it is this season.
