How is Prot in df? I am looking to tank and I love the paladin theme I have had this guy and he has been between ret and prot, now I want to tank so how is it? Should I stay paladin are we looking at not being viable?
Prot is viable as far as i can tell, but our way of play will have to shift with the loss of hp generation from avenger’s sheild. If anything though prot spec looks to me the strongest of the three pally tree’s atm.
How ever, keep in mind holy sheild no longer blocks DoT damage.
HP should be removed. Its an infection of our class.
Well I dont have holy shield now and I plan to just pve. I like what it does but yea
I agree full-heartenly on this. I always saw it as combo points on a class that shouldn’t be anywhere close to rogue mechanics.
It’s still pretty good just for the ability to block spells lol.
Yea i want to use it but giving up righteous hammer for it is kind of hard.
Again i am looking to tank and wasn’t sure if i should even try on my paladin as all the complaints and the sky is falling type post.
And of course the one guy saying leave paladins go warrior
Honestly if i where to change classes my pick would be DK, but i don’t tank on DK’s.
What is nice in df tree’s is that you can have both holy sheild and the hammer skill, which is something i do look forward to.
Same I just want to be able to tank and be accepted in groups and I love the paladin theme so I want to tank on my paladin but if i have to reroll to do I will.
My only concern for the pally prot tree really is how much talents boosts block chance when our mastery already increases our block chances. I think holy sheild really should be the only block increase talent we need really.
I can see that I was interested in cons healing us as well as our allies
That one can be good depending if they tune it to be worth getting. On the beta atm it only heals 39 hp per tick on my current gear. So that being said i do hope they tune it a bit higher for that.
This is what got me into tanking in tbc on my pala popping the ability and having block and watching my paladin move my shield and block the attack. That is what got me into paladin tanking
For me it’s both blocking and the reactionary damage like the old rebout.
But mechanics wise once you get a certain amount of block it starts to become a wasted trait, once we have high mastery stat (which increases our block %) those talents start to become more lackluster.
Don’t forget we have a hard cap on this due to the avoidance table.
Sounds like if we take holy shield we will not be stacking mastery more with vers, and haste and what not. So with holy shield it seems like we will be able to free up some secondary stats.
My take so far is that it works but I’m not excited about it.
Paladin as a class…
HP should be removed. Its an infection of our class.
disagree. it’s a good differentiator and eliminates our need to consider intellect and spirit, while metering our output and limiting the length of periods of downtime. Or did you want to be the tank who says /oom and loses boss aggro?
How ever, keep in mind holy shield no longer blocks DoT damage.
I honestly thought blocking dot dmg was a bug. Blocking the application of the dot, yes, but not the periodic damage. it doesn’t make logical sense.
prot pally looks fine to me. perhaps not as explosive without AS HP, but still viable, and i would argue still the highest AOE TPS generator. Divine Toll still generates HP as well, so you maintain some burst damage, as well as the addition of GC granting a judgment charge, you retain the HP you would have gotten from AS on a GC proc.
i’ve yet to determine if it’s still “fun” but it’s certainly still viable. I argue that pallies are the best tanks in both AOE and single target threat, tbh.
It’s combo points. It don’t make us different then rogues and monks. And playing close to rogues of all classes is something the devs should had 100% avoided on the “Holier then thou” class.
Did you make a mistake on quoting or something? I think this is directed at me but if I didn’t look at this thread I would have missed this.
I never saw it as a bug, if it was, it would had been fixed during the time where holy shield made it’s debut, in BC. I had always thought of it as a feature on a class that happens to also use magic to defend itself.
ye that second quote was only meant to be up to “sense”. i fixed it.
It’s combo points. It don’t make us different then rogues and monks.
i mean to say differentiator from other tanks, each tank having they’re own unique power: rage, runes, etc.
monks has combo points and they are taaaannnnkkkssss…
Prot mastery for dragonflight has been changed to include dots.
